Aw, that's a good one! I bought the Canon MG2922 at Walmart and poked a hole in the ink cartridge with a drill bit, bought ink from a dude on Ebay for $10 and haven't paid a dime for ink in two years!
The advert makes it clear that this printer does not offer scanning, as far as I can see. Most shoppers will need that capability. But, monochrome laser, is the way to go, as far as I am concerned. Why void the warranty by breaching the ink cartridge right off the bat?

I think spicy is referring to an inkjet printer he/she bought. Some of the cartridges can no longer be refilled, without drilling a new hole. I used to refill cartridges all the time (inkjet), sometimes it is much cheaper, then buying replacements. Some of the manufactures are also putting less ink in them, so you have to buy more.
I barely scan anymore. I mostly take photos with my phone. They automatically upload to the cloud and i can attach to a report or print from there.
I often have 20+ pages to upload and scanning works best for that. I can compress the scanned file and that makes an easy upload. No sizing, no sorting to make sure the pages are in order on my desktop.

I have a problem taking clear photos on my phone when I am reporting the PO shops using Mobi Audit. After taking the photo, the app won't let you swipe and enlarge the image to see if it's clear so I have to just hope that it is okay. They get bounced back to me about 1/3 of the time, so then I use my scanner when resubmitting the receipt photo.
For my monthly audits I have a minimum of six sheets for every audit. Most days I will complete two, sometimes three, for a total of 12 to 18 pages. It would take me at least four to five times as long to scan them. If I want them a smaller size I simply email from my phone. Before the email sends I get an option of several sizes to choose from. The whole process takes me five minutes at the most.

Yes, but while the scanner is humming along (quite fast in the case of my Dell multipurpose laser machine) I can be doing other things for the report instead of managing photos that I would not have had to take if I used the scanner in the first place. So, whatever floats your boat.

Oh, but I thought that there was only one singular correct way of doing things in this world, LOL?
wales, you must have a scanner that can process multiple pages at once. Mine is one at a time so it means putting the page on the bed, waiting for it to scan, putting down another page, etc. It also doesn't automatically upload to the cloud like my pictures which means processing them after.

JAS, there is only one correct way to do anything. No doubt wales and me both do it wrong. Oh wellwinking smiley

Free printer here. At this point if it bit the dust I would not replace it. Other than my audit forms, I don't print anything. I could get those done at the FedEX Office up the streetsmiling smiley

Voiding the warranty is fine considering how cheap laser printers are these days. If it kicks the bucket early even after replacing the drum with a generic, you can always find a new B&W laser printer for $50 or less.

If you're looking a decent All in One laser printer with auto feed scanner, the Brother one goes on sale regularly for $90. Again, cheap toner and replacement drum too.
