Do you have a dash cam for your car?

I just ordered a dash cam for my car because it will probably be worth it in case of an accident. The one I ordered has a wifi module that allows you to upload and connect straight to your phone. Does anyone have a dash cam for their car?

We do in both vehicles. I have the SUV with a charge port build into the back, so we also have a rear camera on board in my vehicle. The truck (although it's sorta dead/dying) has a camper top and long bed so we couldn't work it out with a rear cam but do have a dash. I have captured some fun stuff. It's also kinda just nice to have to rewatch. We were in Cherokee, NC a few weeks ago and saw a car run out of gas... and the young girl driving it opened her car door and stuck her foot out like it was a skateboard... and tried to pedal her car on down the road... 0_o

They are relatively cheap in cost. And their are some that are cheaply made. I got mine from QVC/HSN. I have also seem them in the local grocery store/and Walmart.

At a minimun i would suggest one that has; a lcd screen so you can see what it is recording - a shock sensor so if your car gets jolted by a accident, lets say, the camera automatically records that last segment of video clip in a protected area on the sd card so it won't get erased when the camera loops recording - the ability to write over previous recordings, otherwise known as loop recording, at least 2 hour capability, you'll probably need to buy an 16gb sd card - some cameras have the ability, for more $, to record your speed and gps location - at least 1080 hd resolution with 140 degree viewing area - some cameras have the ability to beep at you when your stopped at a light and the car in front of you moves, to let you know to go, another option is it alerts you when you're driving and you sway out of your lane, it beeps - ability to record at night.

You can look on amazon at vinpie, papago and others. Read reviews and see which one fits what u are looking for.
You'll also want to get a high endurance micro SD card. I have a Roav in mine and so far, it seems to be doing well. I catch NDF's on it all the time winking smiley

Neutral Density Filter?
National Defense Features?
Norwegian Dive Federation?

Ok I give up. I have no idea what an NDF is and nothing on Acronym Finder makes any sense.

Ok, well I had the F right. I was thinking something dumb fellows. Guess I was wrong. But what exactly IS a non-driving fellow? Like a person walking down the street? Why would they be interesting? I guess I'm still confused, lol.

wouldnt people walking down street be called pedestrians. arent fellows male. i guess females cant walk in public.
LOL! female Fellows: they're everywhere! Fellowship isn't just for men anymore... I did a quick search and found them in Microsoft, Universities, the Royal Academy, and assorted professional groups. This may be reassuring for potential Methodist church members (because fellowship halls are ubiquitous in those churches).

non-driving rhymes with ducks winking smiley People who are behind the wheel of a vehicle but obviously lack the skills to drive said vehicle. NDF's grinning smiley That's what my (step) dad has always called them, anyway.

Yeah... everyone's a detective now... but who is watching the watchers?

Another option I just remembered are Rear View Mirror Cameras. These clip over the existing rear view mirror. Some companies have a LCD window that shows up within the rear view mirror so you can see what is going on. In addition to recording what is going on in front of you, some companies also give you a camera to see the back of the car too. Just google Amazon Rear View Mirror Camera.
Are any of these easy to install? Or do you have them installed by, say, the Geek Squad if you bought it from Best Buy?

Our Roav --- it literally was a camera and a charger. I ordered the micro sd card and popped it in the camera. I then used the adhesive that came with it to mount it just behind my rearview mirror. The cable runs easily hiding along my fabric roof and down the side panel. Plugs right into my charger/cigarette lighter port. Took us 3-5 minutes to install. The set up -- we basically set the time and date, and the language. Definitely not something you need to have installed. They are designed to pop in with 3M style adhesive and be plugged in like a cellphone. Viola.

That being said -- they power on and off with the car but my car has auto shut down after 5 minutes. If you want one that will stay running, you'll have to get a battery pack or type of charge to keep it going while the car is off. We don't usually stress it because our car is parked under security cameras at the house.

Depending on what kind of camera you get, there are different ways to install them. Some cameras can be installed with a suction cup on the windshield. The rearview mirror camera can clip over the rear view mirror. The installation shouldn't be too difficult. I'd highly suggest searching and reading Amazon reviews / q&a's on the cameras. They usually will tell you almost everything you need to know.
Thanks! Just learned last night at work my hours are getting cut temporarily - just enough so I can't make any extra purchases like dash cameras. But the cut is only until November.

Here's a few screen grabs I took on my dash footage from my laptop. My windshield needs cleaned but you get the idea.

I suggest reading the reviews. There are many cams out there, many with so so reviews.
After a couple weeks with my new dashcam, I say it's worth it. Once you install it, you don't have to worry about it. It turns on when you start your car.

If you're feeling it, you can also get a battery backup to keep the cam on an addition 20-60 minutes for when it's parked. I have a newer vehicle that auto shuts off the charging ports after five minutes so the cam won't stay on long after I park (5mn+30 seconds). The battery backup was great for us because now we can spend time inside and capture any dings or dents that might occur. In the past, my sedan (now retired) was hit in a parking lot and no one saw anything and couldn't provide any camera evidence -_-

With all the crazy drivers out there, it's definitely worthwhile to protect from false accusations should it arise.
What kind do you have ?
