Do banks record you when you call?

I have never heard a recording saying that I would be recorded, but do they do this for security and such? Not on a shop -- I know we call sometimes through recorded line -- but are the banks recording the conversations that come through on all of their bank lines? I had a call and it sounded like there was some serious feedback coming through the line during a non-recorded phone call.

I think they do. Call the bank back. Listen to the prerocorded message before you get connected to your bank party. smiling smiley
The line I used was direct to bank from the back of my debit card they printed -- it just had a lot of feedback going on. I do live in a one party state, though and it's a local community bank.

I did a bank shop recently. Waiting for the Teller to impress me with her training and Client requirements. I eagerly tried to hint her. The teller was not biting. Eventually, I received my POV and parting farewell. When I left the shop I was sad for the teller, because I would have to report on the side of negativity. As I reached for the door to exit, I broke out into a happy dance. WHY??????????

Because the teller whom waited on me, was the Assistant Manager of the bank. grinning smiley grinning smiley

I used to work for Wells Fargo. Our calls were recorded randomly. The employees could tell, but the customers could not. Employees would hear an echo on the call.

I had an incident with a bank where I was a customer. I insisted they pull the recorded call so I could prove my point. They refused, stating that it would cost too much.

So what's the purpose of recording then? Sounds like they are only willing to refer to the recording when it will benefit them. :/

That's exactly why banks randomly record their business conversations. They do not record to add additional benefits to their customers or because they are required to record. Not every call is recorded. They are not necessarily willing to go to the expense of tracking down a particular business conversation if a recording even exists and if the recording was retained. They randomly record as a benefit to the bank and they use the recordings internally.
Exactly!

as a former telemarketer there is a huge array of disclosures that vary by state.

there are some states that do not require informed consent

IE
"This call may be monitored for training purposes."
Any comment made after that by you is you acknowledging this and therefore giving your consent to record.

shopping north west PA and south west ny
Since the 2 party consent law of any of those 14 states covers any calls made from within those states to one party states (and visa versa), most businesses that want to use calls for training and QC will record ALL calls into and out of their call centers. Hence you may often hear that recorded message when receiving or calling from a one party state.

Have video cam; will travel

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
I do some transcription work and was transcribing store recordings. The customer on the phone was telling someone in the room what the prerecorded message was saying but I wasn't hearing it. So, it seems they can record you during that as well.
