Does this tactic work?

Instead of asking of a $50 dollar bonus, would asking for $49.99 instead increase your chance of getting it? In retail, the use of .99 in pricing causes an item to appear cheaper. In a different scenario, if a scheduler said they were offering a $20 bonus, and you replied back, no, I'll take it for $19.99, would they throw in some hero citations because they believe they just just saved the company some money?

Does anyone use this tactic and should we start doing it?

Can we at least keep the bullshit threads in general chat?

What B.S.?

To begin with, that any shopper would ask for a lower bonus amount than what was offered by a scheduler, even a penny! Hey Dave, maybe you should start working for free?

Laughter is fantastic. I crack jokes constantly. I laugh a lot in person. These threads are not funny in the least bit. If they were I would join in.

I must have missed his blog. Do you have a link?

grinning smiley It is worth a try. Note well that prices ending in .98 and .99 are successful with consumers. You remember that for awhile, Penney's hyper-priced their products and customers waited for "sales" and were gratified when they paid regular retail prices and got "bargains". Or something like that. So, why wouldn't mystery shoppers ask for $60.99 or $70.99 and let themselves be chiseled down to a bonus of, say, $30.00? As long as the shopper is happy with $30.00, everyone should be happy because they played along and "won".

I think you do. You keep reading his therads, and you keep telling us that we do not have to love DavePi. On some level, you must like these threads at least a little bit. Without them, would you be bored? And, who cannot love the trivia master, or whatever he/she is, of this forum?

I actually have a very difficult time negotiating when the starting price is so low. If MF calls me for a cell phone shop that started at $7.50 or The Source calls me for a shop that started at $17.00 (or the many other insulting offers I receive daily) and, for me, that price is not even something I would ever consider. I've already put the shop in the trash. So, I find myself studdering and upset, maybe wanting them to apologize for the initial insult before pulling the shop out of the trash and taking one more look at it and negotiating. Something I need to get over because, of course, they won't be apologizing. I'll try the $29.99, or since I've worked at Wally World, $28.88. If nothing else, it will make me laugh when I say it and maybe that will finally break that studder-point!?
God knows I've tried to insult right back by offering to do the $7.50 shop for $200.00.
Real Estate always says list for $699,000, the thought is stay under that 700,000 price, people will think they got a bargain. Trying to ask my favorite "The Source" for a 2.00 pad is asking for the world, so next time i'll ask for 1.99, stay tuned......

The reason for that is not because someone will think they got a bargain. In real estate people search according to their budgets. So because many people's search parameters end at $700,000, you might want to list for $699,000 so that all the people who are ending their searches at $700,000 see it when they search online for properties. (I feel like I used too many words in that sentence but am not re-writing it).
My Real Estate days was pre computer, the rule of thumb was to price a grad under the big #, as in 699,000, 799,000 and so on...my ex was a developer/builder. When asking my favorite MSC for a 2.00 pad and never getting it, I'll now ask for 1.99...sad smiley stay tuned.
