Mileage deductions while visiting family; Any special rules?

I've been staying with a friend/family for two weeks to provide them some much needed company. It's only 25 minutes from my house, but I have been making trips to the post office twice a week for my online shop. Are there special rules about deducting these miles? I typically live just 0.4 miles from the post office but now I'm about 14 miles each way from it.. I tried reading up on this but couldn't necessarily find anything.... I've looked on the IRS website but perhaps didn't use correct search terms. I've also been hanging out with JK Lassers Your Income Tax 2018.

Are the additional miles causing your trips to be a loss on paper? If you are still making a profit and this is a temporary situation, I don't see why it would make a difference. Right now it is only an additional 112 miles. I don't see how it could make a big difference when added into your total miles for the year.

I just wasn't sure if there were an rules about causing ourselves to have a longer trip since I chose to come stay with her for a few weeks as she's about to pop haha. But no, no loss on paper. I have processing times set up so I usually go MW and maybe F with a handful of packages.

Look at it this way, we have the choice to make our offices anywhere we want them to be. I'm not aware of any rule requiring we never change them. Two other things to consider is how this relates to your overall year. If you normally drive 10,000 miles in a single year, an extra 200 is only 2%. You also didn't say if you have been taking other assignments closer to her house than your own. Mileage saved there could make the whole thing a wash.

May not be on the right thread (forgive me). Phone cannot be deducted per Trumps new law. My daughter paid for a year cell phone used for business to get the tax break.
