Adverturess eating...

My lunch today at "Solita" gave me the idea of this thread. Went out with a friend to a restaurant, not shopped and not a chain...we are very lucky to have this gem in our town. Beautiful inside and menu, here goes. My most adventuress eating experience in many years. I had the chef's signature dish called "Grilled Toreado", which is
a small taco made with a grilled jalapeno pepper, smoked tequila onions, cheese, bacon, crema and salsa. never had anything better, the flavors were off the chart...small yet filling. Spoke with the Manager telling him to please complement the chef. Will be back Tuesday for another and listen to their music...love this place...how about yours? Will not be happy at a chain though Applebee's won ton chicken taco's are pretty darrn good.
You can taste the love and care that went into this dish.....imagination galore!!smiling smiley

Update, due to my being so vocal about that meal, I get an email from the Manager (who I spoke with), inviting me to join them Tuesday (tomorrow) with that dinner "on the house" and meet the chef.....pays to be a foodie..smiling smiley

Oh WOW Irene that is awesome! I can't wait to hear about it!

In my effort to limit my caloric intake, my meals are not very exciting.

HonnyBrown You can eat exciting without a lot of calories. I watch all of the cooking shows and love to cook. The type of foods that Irene eats is similar to my taste. Believe it or not I do not eat at fast food restaurants, only if it is a job, but I do very few. Tacos are easy and great to make without a lot of calories. One of my favorites are a flour tortilla, coleslaw, with a lime crème I make, any white fish sauted in taco seasoning (I make my own), Avocado, diced sliced tomatoes, salsa, you can make this with steak, turkey, hamburger etc.
Edit: I do not use coleslaw dressing, I use Lime, S&P, small amount of sour cream. You can add Tequila into the crème.

There are so many low cal ways to cook and restaurants now list calories. My tacos include grilled shrimp, chicken, ground turkey and beef. I'll slow cook a chicken with black beans and make a great tostada salad,
then have my taco's for a couple days....actually lots of protein. I also don't eat late at night or after dinner, which helps my weight. I was a naughty girl, seems once I eat carbs, I want more, which happened a couple days ago.
I eat out alot but love salads, just not sweets and watch carbs (most of the time). I do eat french bread often and a bagel as well......just be aware and you'll be fine....shopper8, I'm stealing your lime dressing for coleslaw. still love my Best Food or Hellman's mayo.....

The others told you how to make food fun, colorful, tasty, nutrient-dense yet somehow delicious, and otherwise 'exciting'. I just want to offer up one teensy weensy little suggestion. What if your meals could occasionally be on the less exciting side, and a focus could be on a lovely plate, flower arrangement, or background music that you like. Meals do not always have to be full-on, hyped up, neuroexcitatory, gustatory gusts of gastronomic geothermalism. Sometimes, they can be just simple food accompanied by a view, a musical treat, or something else that you like. This can add non-food pleasures to your mealtimes and preparations for eating. Good luck! smiling smiley

I think Honny right now would be happy with just about anything she could easily swallow without much chewing as long as it tasted good. Honny, hope your mouth is recovering from your fall.

Agreed. Once, a relative was on a liquid diet for some mouth-related reason. They blenderized everything. Everything! Liquid burgers? Why not. Honny, you might not like a drinkable burger. But I remember those yummy-sounding recipes that you made for demo work. Are these the kinds of things you can use now?

Shop-et-a....the food we talk about also comes in beautiful plating, easy on the eye and good in the tummy....background music and art on the walls completes the experience.
