Food Trucks

Now that I am on a liquid diet, I am stalking the menus of the food trucks in the area. I work in Washington DC where there are a LOT of federal government employees. The food truck culture here is serious! The food trucks go to their locations by lottery, so every day it's a surprise. The cuisines range from lobster and seafood to thai to BBQ to sloppy joes...you name it!

Some hits that I have had from the food trucks: Lobster Roll, Poutine with Short Ribs, Chicken Pho, A steak pot pie, and french fries from a gyro truck.

What's your favorite mobile food?

I wish we had food trucks here. We don't. Might be because of the weather. We only get about 5 months where it is above 60 degrees out.
Oh, we have an Industrial section that gets food trucks daily, close to my house and I concentrate on food shops so much, I haven't been, but hear they're great....thanks for reminding, I'm not doing much this week, think I'll take a ride for lunch this week....doing a Jack in the grave today, good pay so, will take a couple bites, then go to the ER......

My personal favorite is the Halal food truck in downtown around the times the bars close. Extra tzatziki, please!!

Shopping the Greater Denver Area, Colorado Springs and in-between in Colorado. 33 year old male and willing to travel!
JAS, the food trucks here come out every day that we are working. On Fridays, at one of the metro stations, there's even live music. One Friday a month in the summer, there's Truckeroo where a bunch of trucks gather.

Can you tell I'm hungry?

That sounds so cool. I wish I lived somewhere like that. My friend in my hometown in Florida works at a food truck for part of the year when she isn't playing her guitar in bars.
Irene, when I lived there, it was "Jack in the Crap!" Their food was great for hangovers.

Love it!

The truck where I got the really good fries, the gyro was so stuffed, I had to remove some of the meat. The next day, I had loaded fries for lunch.

Yeah, it's a lot of fun. I go to a Truckeroo close to home. I look at the menus online and plan to visit three trucks. One is always missing.

Gyro's. They use beef (not Lamb) otherwise I would not eat them. Delicious! Love falafel too! The other trucks are breakfast, hot dogs, ice cream. Not into those.
Our trucks have every cuisine you can think of. There's even a sushi truck! One truck sells popcorn. There is a website that tracks the food trucks in the area, and some of them tweet their locations.

I wouldn't worry about the sushi truck, i got sick yesterday from "Jack in the grave".....never again. The Sushi here is fresh, but I wouldn't buy that from a truck either.

If I can't see what's going on in the kitchen I get a little nervous just about anywhere I eat...guessing Jack in the Barf doesn't have an open kitchen concept, huh.
All the shops are drive-thru, You go in to take a pic the menu and restroom, but can't see what goes on in the kitchen.

Irene, since we don't have the apparently nauseous fast food restaurant of Jack in the Box where I live, I would have no idea what the layout is like. I know that Burger King, Wendy's, and McDonald's where I live all have open kitchens where you can see the food being cooked (not like I would ever eat in those places these days and haven't since I was in my 20s), so why would I think that you would eat somewhere that didn't have the same? And why would you eat somewhere if the food is so nasty it makes you sick!!!!! I wouldn't do it no matter how much they paid me.
I haven't tried the sushi truck yet. They have a massive following.

I am not sure how well I would trust the sushi on the sushi truck...hmmm.

Irene, how are you feeling?

There's actually a food truck here in Boston that gets mystery shopped! (It's part of a small chain that also has brick and mortar locations.)

Many of ours get shopped but usually downtown, not in my area.

Oh that is awesome! NinS, have you done the shop?

@Jas....I rarely eat FF but have been known to enjoy a Carl's Jr. from time to time... not being familiar with Jack until now, I did three for 15.00 a piece, having a Jr. burger that cost 2.50. i didn't get sick until i did, so wouldn't have know that before hand. There's one on every corner here like SB.....seemed easy, took MFJ's lead and tried it. Not a biggie, It happens to the best of us...hope that explains your questioning....

Well if I ever go to a city that has one I know better than to eat there. Thanks for the warning. Glad you're better.
Jack isn't the worst, but it's no In-n-Out. They are great for convenience. Like Irene said, they are on every corner.

I was watching Food network and saw a guy that owns LOCO food trucks here in L.A., starting a movement to make a healthy taco usig the best ingredients.....wish they'd come here, it's in a rough part of town, but what a great idea.
