That time of year again where everyone starts shopping?

I suppose it's that time of year...

I told a friend about shopping a couple years ago and have regretted it since. This week alone, FIVE individuals in my town have messaged or came up to me at work asking about shops and getting started or getting more information from me. I just sort of brush it off and tell them it was short lived, I wasn't making enough money, it was too much trouble, or I haven't done it in years...I've even told the friend I gave it up because it was a hassle, low fees, etc.

Today, took the cake. A woman in my building said that my friend told her about my experience and how I was making thousands of dollars a month and basically getting me everything free... "for hardly any real work at all." After I gave her a quick run down of how stressful some jobs were, how much time they took, that I was driving four hours in one direction for a single shop at times, and that the pay worked out to about $2-$4 an hour for most jobs, she seemed less interested.

The weather is getting warm and everyone is coming out of hibernation. I really have slacked off on shops, though.

If they lived hours away, sure. But I already live in a tiny, 800-900 person town with limited work. I'm nearing the 200 company mark.

My babysitter knows I mystery-shop (she's also a close friend) and asked me what companies I use. I don't want her to take my jobs, so I told her about Maritz, Trendsource and companies I don't use.
Right now, there is more work available for me than, pretty much, ever. I am turning down shops with payments I would normally snatch up very quickly. Perhaps it's regional - I know the economy in my area is very strong and unemployment very low, which would suggest a larger lack of shoppers than usual.

Hard work builds character and homework is good for your soul.
Not all companies are particularly good about paying for those referrals. A new active shopper in my area (and I live in a big city) could easily cost me well more each month than what I might get for referring him/her.

I thought I had retired, yet a great job comes to me for today, my restaurant rotation is up, so my fav's available, got three, and since the big box fee went down to $5.00 from 7, not doing any even though I'm in that mall....sometimes ya just gotta say no no no, lowering fees for an audit, not fair......I also had to refuse a job with a good company that pays 10.00 for way too much work....more jobs of substance to choose from at this time.
Was invited to do a training for a first class hotel in Vegas, nice to know your still wanted...smiling smiley

I would not refer a shopper who would be in direct competition with me.

Referral's would make me feel responsible for the person, and not knowing their work ethic or if shopping is a good fit for them, not sure how far making $ goes. I once gave a friends daughter he name Market Force as she felt pay too little and she wouldn't do it...of course she can tutor over the summer, but her Mother wanted in on my action (freebies). had it worked, she would be in direct competition with me...what do i win?

I have referred a few people--who lived 1,000 miles away. Actually, I referred a few people to Bare through the referral program. Unfortunately I never got paid anything for it.

That's why I'm here, taking all the tackles, so I can talk about, get advice etc. I don't tell anyone I know where I live. I've had one guy, a merchandiser, tell me that he does mystery shopping. He's the one that said he steals in the Alta360 gas station shops to get his "full pay". I'm sure that guy tells other merchandisers so he can look like a bad-a$$.
Did you check your login to see if those people completed any shops? That is how you get paid.

Yes, some of my referrals did shops. I didn't get paid anything. I saw the points there, but it looked like I had to get 25 points to get paid. I think I had about 11 points if I recall. So it turned out to be a waste of my time.
Jas, I am reading the post of LShapiro as you can be paid the $11.00 for shops done by your referrals. I might be wrong, but that's how I read it.
I just went to my shop log. Nope. You get paid after you hit 25 points. And my points expired, too, so I would have to start all over again.
Yeah, well, it's $11. Not that big of a deal. I only did it to help a few friends out. I wouldn't do it for the money, could you imagine how many emails and links you would have to send to find people who would do the 25 shops for you to get paid? Out of the people I referred, only a few of them followed through and actually did some shops. If I want to get paid I will go do a shop.
Another tease.....shame on them, if you send someone, regardless of the outcome, sending a shopper deserves pay, doing 25 shops for 11.00 burns me to the core. I want to tell them where they can stick their 11.00, but we all know how polite I am...

No, 11 shops were completed total, that's 11 points and supposed to be $11, but you can't get paid until you hit 25 points.

I just tried to self-assign a job per instructions on your site, and was told this job is not for self-assigning, so
how do you get the job, self-assigning doesn't work, and there is no other option. I can do it tomorrow.
