Carson's closing

My husband just returned from a quick shopping spree at his favorite location. He found out that tomorrow they will officially announce the closing of all stores. He scored some deep discounts in the meantime on some beautiful clothes, but I did not realize the parent company was in so much trouble. The loss is seismic.

What is Carson's?

Bon Ton is the parent. I think Younker's, I know Bergner's among the names the parent company has used out of the various states that they have had operations. Carson, Pirie, Scott is what it once was when completely independent, I think for about 100 years, but I may be off give or take a decade. It was/is a nice alternative to not quite going the full Marshall Field's/Macy's route and nowhere near the Needless Markup as my husband calls Neiman Marcus.
Bon Ton went out of our area some time ago. They went really downhill before they finally closed. Guess they have been in trouble for a while. Sorry to hear that = loss of jobs.

We purchased all our furniture from Carson's in January. They will honor the warranty since it's handled by a third party. We made some major purchases so they sent us 26 cards $50 each with 20 off. I went to the store and didn't like anything. I gave away 5 of my cards to a couple shopping there.

They go by different names in different states. Carson Pirie Scott, Bergner's, Boston Store chains, Younkers and Herberger's and Bon Ton. That's what my cleaning kit says.

I did not know that so many stores were linked or that the oldest was 160 years old.
