I'm I the only one to find this to be in very bad taste?

I just received an email announcing a shop in Hawaii with "Shop near a lava flow! $10 bonus too!" as the subject line, from CSA, Inc. I was appalled, considering all the people in danger of losing their homes.

Shopping up and down the Colorado Rocky Mountain front range.

Just got this email with the following in subject line.

“Shop near a lava flow! $10 bonus too.”

The shop is in Pahoa Hawaii the closest town to where many houses have been destroyed. Looking at Google maps, most of the access roads around Pahoa are closed. Well maybe for the $10 bonus someone will risk their car if not their life to get it done.

I got the e-mail too. I agree insensitive.

I'm rarely offended by things and I was like holy cow they can't be serious with that.

it is indeed a trifle bizarre and yes, insensitive.

I have shopped for them in Hawaii before. I saw the email and kinda thought wow, I can't imagine what kind of pressure the client is putting on them to get the shops filled under such extreme circumstances! I would seriously think the client might just have other priorities....like self preservation!

AFAIK, the owner/scheduler is based in Hawaii herself. Perhaps she is more attuned to what the locals will do, such as going to watch the lava which is what one of the emails said. I often read about shoppers willing to brave blizzards, floods, hurricanes and tornadoes. Considering how slow lava flows, I would be more likely to try that one than a blizzard.

I’ve actually hiked into the lava field to watch the flow but that was nothing like this. Read the warning just released today plus the high chance of an eruption causing the raining of boulders. No thanks for $10 or any amount:

“As if the catastrophic, home-devouring lava weren't bad enough, now residents have to worry about choking on sulfur dioxide.
Dangerous levels of the toxic gas are rising from some fissures, or cracks in the ground caused by the volcano, Hawaii County officials said.”

Plus I wonder if the store in Pahoa is even open or could close at anytime. What’s next - want to chase a real tornado and do a shop in its path? Incredible.

I got the email as well. I thought it was tasteless.

Thoughtless, tasteless, insensitive, yes all of that. Or perhaps they were just following the advice of one of our politicians - "Never let a good crises go to waste". This is a shop I would pass on.

The lava and gasses are all pouring towards the ocean down from Pahoa. Unless the winds change. If the winds change, it is very temporary. Absolutely everyone who lives in Leilani Estates understands that they bought and built as just a loan from Madam Pele.

The weather and rainfall amounts are perfect in and around Leilani for growing just about any crop without having to worry about water-logged roots. The average local cannot afford property in Leilani and downwind areas. Lava insurance does not exist.

Leilani Estate's, the side that is being overtaken by Pele, has a Board of Director's for the Associate (much like a condo associate) that decided to institute outrageous rules, fees, road fees and began to collect on fines they issued to people who's grass was too tall, etc. by ordering the sale of said homes and/or property. The local's all said that Pele would have her revenge for such actions. She is collecting.

Da store stay open, can buy beer and poke.

Outside of HA and WA, the rest of the country may not know the magnitude of a volcano, so when it makes the news, we *are* seeing raining boulders, and molten lava flowing into the streets.

That being said, when I first moved to Kansas, a signal went off at the plant for a tornado watch (the weather conditions are right for a tornado). I went into

FULL

PANIC

MODE.

Meanwhile, my coworkers weren't paying any attention to that watch. It was nothing. They were busy trying to calm me down.

I was very calm during a tornado. Mind you, my musical ear was seeking relevance in the shrieky past-it soprano battle of winds v. sirens. Antiphon? Distraction? Who cares. I was fortunate in that the tornado touched down elsewhere. I cannot imagine how much more intense the situation was for people who were there at the time or were affected by what happened.

I'd like to add, as far as the scheduler goes, the elevator doesn't go to the top floor. I remember our last big earthquake in 1991, my air conditioner fell out of the wall and blocked my bedroom, I couldn't get out, it was 4:00am, and all car horns were going off, dark and erry, thinking about doing a job, hell to the no!! I wasn't shopping then, just for myself, this company is totally bonkers.

$10 bonus? For a shop near a lava flow, you should be able to get at least a $50 bonus for it.
