Big thanks to all! I looked up 'Criminal Harassment' and found much more information than by searching for mental health issues that may be present in bullies. We-- everyone who might be a responsible-style adult or kid-- might do a little life check-up and find out if we are hurting other people, even unintentionally. We might not know if something was misstated or misheard. We might not know if we are operating in a gossip chain and doing harm that way. We might not know if we said a wrongful or hurtful thing-- such as repeating a line or action from an entertainment piece which happens to be unknown to or frowned upon by our victim. We might be busy in life, operating in our usual niceness and decency, and overlook some offense which matters to someone else. I am not suggesting that anyone in this forum has an intention to harm anyone.
Legally, our intentions are important. What we intend or do not intend may determine the outcome of legal cases and keep us free or get us some punishment. Practically, victims might not care about what was intended. The harm was done, and damage must be rectified. Is suicide that is fed by bullying a rectification? Is a kid who is threatening or completing suicide a little like Mordecai who tore his clothing in hopes of drawing attention to Haman and that tyranny? Mordecai had no other recourse in his world, except to draw attention to tyranny and impending death, in hopes that someone in authority would "get it" and make a change. (Haman, trusted by the King, had the power and the audacity to dare to attempt to force Mordecai, uncle of the Queen and essentially a 'Snowflake', to give up faith, religion, and self-identity and bow to Haman. To spoil the story, Haman did not win.) Is kid-produced murder (such as school shootings) a rectification, or (in kids' minds) the prevention/reduction of future possible acts of bullying or harassment in the places where no other recourse is perceived or effective?
n our time, there may not be any Esthers who will risk their lives to speak to kings and free the Mordecais of the society. However, there are resources for still-alive victims of bullying and harassment. There are grief and suicide support groups for the survivors of other victims.
Do we want to live in a world where such resources are needed as much as they are needed?
