Roseanne cancelled due to racist remark....

Do you know what it has taken to move the USA from the racist, bigotist sh!thole of a country it was, except for rich white men, that didn't even allow women to VOTE until a few decades ago? Your ideas of working around or forgiving a situation like this is f#$%tardedness as I am currently standing in line to vote, as a woman!

Thinking now about another type of employment. This might be what some of us left behind, still do, or refuse to do. It's called group work. Would you appreciate being cast aside because one of your co-workers offended someone, even though you had done nothing of the sort? After all, you would lose more than money. You would lose experience and something to do. You might lose valuable connections with persons. You might lose an opportunity to model an alternative view that does not involve racism.

You mentioned being a female voter. Did the women's movement really begin so that women could relish being female versions of the old while men? Some women in today's world are at least as bad as the old white men they have railed against for so many years. Is this an improvement? Can women do better than that? Can women be more considerate of more people than we have been up to this moment? Or, are women going to carry on as as snarky, selfish equivalents of the old white men? Is there another type of woman?

The two headliners, Roseanne Barr and John Goodman are persons of weight, fat, obese, or whatever we are supposed/allowed to say these days. Is it just a coincidence that a show featuring large persons was cancelled?

I don't know, I always assumed you were a woman. But since you've mentioned that women are snarkey selfish and all of that I now assume you are a man who treated his woman so poorly, unrecognizing it, so that she resented you and became as you say If you're a woman, that's a pretty crappy way to speak of women, continuously. I, for one, am done with this particular thread. You can't seem to teach an old dog new tricks as they say. There's no explaining or mansplaining that's going to do the trick here. Is there such a thing an an unlearned learner?
That's a ridiculous question. Obviously the show was canceled because Roseanne made racist comments.

Continuing to read her biased posts, I am heading for a migrane....please lets STOP defending the perpretator.
Roseanne's history speaks for itself, ABC couldn't in good moral consciousness give her a speaking ground to continue in her racist manner, being she ran the show, it was her idea, named after her, they did the right thing, and as happens in life, some innocent folks get caught, that was HER responsibility to care for employees that followed her for work, and she didn't give a rat's arse. Weight doesn't have a thing to do with it,grow up.

@Shop-et-al
The show was not cancelled due to the weight of the actors.... If that was the issue, ABC would not have hired them I. The first place.

Yes, others got burned. However, if you take a job that relies on the good behavior of somebody like Roseanne, you are kind of asking for trouble. If the cast and crew have talent they will work again- and for well more than what most of us in this board make.

My question is to spicy, Irene, MFJohnston and JASFLALMT. Why do you feel the need to engage someone who consistently defends the worst of the worst? There is no preferential treatment. Trolls, racists and misogynists are equally welcomed and given a seat at the head of the table.

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

Mmmmm yes. Thank you for pointing out that. I admit to being slightly insane and will probably continue to do the same actions repeatedly and expect different results...wait. No I don't really expect different results but I still will probably continue to repeat those actions. OCD maybe.
Lisa, you are right, trying to talk sense into a closed mind never works...over and out, I'm done.

And this is why one or more movements, hashtags, or general sea changes are needed. Thank you for doing a great job of highlighting a few areas of needed change. I am not the only person who knows this. Others are swimming upstream in other waters, doing their parts to make whatever changes they can. These activists are farther along in the change world than I am. You might be glad that they work elsewhere.

Asking because I don't understand your wording..."sea changes" mean? Last word of advice, beware of who you make friends with, it may rub off and everyone is judged by the friends they have (in the real world). I've personally never been an activist, just know right from wrong.

I am LOL at this because this poster is always SEA (Shop-et-al) to me...so sea changes, well crap, the sea changes all the time (for sure) and nothing is constant, apparently.
spicy, I do not approve of much of what women have been fighting for, and I am not going to join those aspects of feminism. Hate me all you want to, but you only encourage me to be my own sort of woman, flaws and all, and finding or creating the best 21st century way of being female that I can. I did not find the needed leadership for that in the consistently mean words here. That chronic nastiness is at least as unappreciated as the racism spewed by Roseanne. Fortunately, great examples are elsewhere.

You do not approve of much of what women have been fighting for however you take advantage of it.
You work. You work as a mystery shopper. You are free to speak so horribly of women who speak their mind and saying that they do so because they are nasty, chronically nasty etc because you are so educated.
You drive a car, I'm assuming. You can vote, wear a bikini, drink to your hearts content, decide to or not to have children, clean the house or not, study what you are able to study and become as confused as you are.

These things that women are able to do, that you are able to do, these things are because of women like me. You're welcome!
I just heard Sarah Gilbert, one of the producers of the Roseanne show is in talks to continue the show saving all those that would have lost their jobs.....to be called The Darlene show, her character, so the racist is out, and all others continue...leave it to Hollywood. We can all sleep tonight...smiling smiley

Today, June 5, 2018. Just TODAY, Saudia Arabia "gave" women the right to drive a f#@$#@ CAR! omg
That sounds dangerous...
It would be terribly difficult to check blind spot spots while wearing a burka - which is still required attire.

I completely agree. It's atrocious that women can drive.**

On a serious note. In the 70s when our family would go on vacation my parents would split driving. My dad's family just could not understand how he could take a nap while my mom drove.

Roseanne is an idiot. All she had to do was keep her mouth shut. Instead, she cost many people their jobs (actors, camera crew, production, etc). I actually liked the show and was bummed that it was cancelled, although I agree with their decision. I feel bad for all those out of jobs because of her thoughtless actions. And instead of owning up to it, she blames it on Ambien. SMH
Something occurred to me. The tweeting behavior had escalated. Roseanne may be experiencing a medical condition which may or may not be related to Ambien. If this is true, she needs a 'big hug from the world' and hopes for health. (When Heather Locklear was in the news for some troubles, someone posted in a public comment section that they sent to Heather 'a big hug from the world'. I liked that response. It was non-judgemental and suitable for public viewing.)

@ a few people: Some rights are not worth fighting for, such as the right to kill. Do any women really believe that women are so mighty, wonderful, powerful, and precious that women can and should and shall invoke a "right" to end lives which are within women's bodies? This one has rankled me for years. Even when considering the consistent stat of 1-1.5% rape or incest causes of pregnancy along with the extremely rare risk to pregnant womens' health or lives, I declare that this "rights" issue is absurd. In fact, women have a right to behave in ways that do not even risk unwanted or unplanned pregnancy. If more women were invoking their rights of abstinence, celibacy, or readiness for children, there might be less demand for on-demand killings. The mob has performing on-demand killings for centuries. Why should women the equivalent of that?

LOL about the driving jokes. Driving was one of the -erm- driving forces in female freedom. When the pill came along, another shackle was shed. With a car and a birth control pill, there was (theoretically) no stopping a woman who knew where she wanted to go and what she wanted to do.

1. Racism is not a medical condition and is not caused by Ambien.
2. We do not need to get into an argument here about "pro-life" v. "pro-choice" stances.

Hard work builds character and homework is good for your soul.
MFJ, it is pro-choice versus pro-birth. Saying women's only two choices are celibacy or children makes us all out to be brood mares. News flash, some of like to have sex just because we like it.

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

I'm under the impression that being "pro-choice" was supporting the idea that a pregnant woman should be able to choose whether to carry the child to term or abort the pregnancy - having nothing to do with celibacy, birth control, etc. "Pro-Life" would be supporting the notion that, once pregnant the woman should be mandated to carry the child to term.

I used to be pro-choice. Then, I obtained additional information.

I have not stated that the so-called Ambien defense is relevant or applicable. I have stated that there may be medical issues which may or may not be related to Ambien. After all, each person is unique and medication users may lose touch with their filters and say things that they otherwise would state differently or not at all. What they might say could be anything and have nothing to do with racism. This is what is irksome about Ambien's clever remark: it fails to address the uniqueness of each person who uses that medication and the possibility of changing or cumulative effects for individuals. The response threw all medication users under the bus. Thank you, Big Pharma, for your insensitive remark. I hope that I will never need your products.

Personal responsibility necessarily limits women's sexual freedom.

Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished. - Lao-Tzu
My life has taught me, sexual freedom has to do with chemistry and attraction, we are as free as we choose to be, but chemistry is powerful, and most will take a chance on love, not question it.....big .Pharma companies do tests before getting approval, so pretty much know the % of side effects and write them on the pills. Perhaps she was on more than just one drug, but who's fault would that be, her character of being a racist is there, pills or no pills.

A side effect of Ambien - showing the world what you really think. Is it affect or effect - it is early and my grammar may be a little off.
