Dash cam recommendations?

I know there was a post awhile back, but I searched for it and can't find it. I need to get a dashcam, one that has a motion-sensor. Some idjit keeps peeling off vinyl decals from my car windows. Put the newest ones on the interior windows, but I'm concerned s/he/it may snag it yet again. Was thinking about getting one anyway, but now sooner rather than later.

How is your car parked? In front of your house or driveway? Somewhere out of your view? If it is parked in your driveway or in front of your house, you can put a cam by your window facing the car and set it to take photos whenever someone comes into range. You can set it to take however many photos u like and for how long, in daylight or night. I caught my neighbor across the street using my driveway all the time to backup into theirs. I told them to stop,

If the car is out of a view, as mc said, you need a battery and that gets trickier.
There are 2 types of dash cams.... Capacitor based and non-capacitor based (built-in battery).

But for WHATEVER reason, there's literally only one brand that offers the capacitor based dash cam. It's from Aukey.

The benefits of the capacitor is that the power is fed from your vehicle via your fuses using a hardware fuse kit or your cigarette lighter port via USB. Additionally, the biggest concern I have with built-in batteries is fluctuating temperatures, especially when it comes to heat. Fluctuating temperatures diminish the life of the battery and with hot temperatures, it puts the dash cam at risk for failure.

The benefits of the non-capacitor versions is that since there's a built-in battery, some of the dash cams have 'motion detection' to turn on even when your car's off. The downside? The battery and risk due to fluctuating temperatures in the car and direct sunlight to the device.

For the 2 Aukey dash cams I recommend, it's either he 'DR002' model or the 'DR001' model. At a sale, you can grab these for $50. Then a Class 10 microSD card (32gb works for your purposes) typically for $10-15.

The prices above ($50) are currently not available, but come around ever so often if you're willing to wait.

For hardwiring your dash cam, a kit like this works: [www.amazon.com]

Only details that may change your needs for the hardwiring depends on the kind of fuses your vehicle has (low-profile, mini, etc.).

I tried to condense the information as much as possible, but hope this helps!

My setup in my vehicle has the Aukey DR-01 model ALWAYS mounted with wires hidden and hardwired to my fuse box. So when I turn on my car, my dash cam turns on. I eventually plan to add a second one of these to the rear windshield for additional documentation.

Ah, I read more in detail with your OP, iShop123:

The Roav by Anker Dash Cam C1 Pro will serve your purposes. It is not currently on-sale but is a highly reviewed option. The downside would be the built-in battery and motion detection you're looking for for the reasons I stated above.

If your vehicle is parked at home and near your windows, I'd suggested a 24-hour IP cam, which is cheap and contains some potential privacy flaws. A simple camera like this can cost around $20-40 on a good sale. These IP cam almost always have motion detection and I use these to continuously monitor 24/7 at my house.

Btw, if it's in the interior of your windows, what's your concern, unless you're concern the next time may be a broken window and your car getting broken into?

I have the Roav -- Two of them. I have one in the front and one in the back. I've captured some interesting things on camera, a couple of accidents, several break downs, etc. I recommend also making sure you get a good, high quality sd card that can withstand heat. I do everything I can to help reduce temps in the car, but the cams do get warm depending on where you live. Our South Eastern summer temps rarely hit the 100 marks and usually stay at 90 or below, but sometimes, it gets sweltering. They have the ability to set the motion sensor for X amount of time, jostles, or set it up to where if it feels any movement or jostling while in sleep mode, it will begin recording. Nifty little devices.

Went through a road check a few months back -- no joke officer said "those things are excellent if the other guy screwed up. If you screwed up, you gotta make the memory card disappear real fast" 0_o

What kind of decals are they stealing?

Thanks for the recommendations. They're being stolen when my son takes the SUV to work. They're Potusher decals (no words). I suspect it's the druggies who stand outside with their cardboard signs, or some Millennial who thinks only his point of view should be expressed. Anyway, yes on the worry of the broken window. It's only a misdemeanor here, but also carries lawyers' fees and civil damages. If it's the druggies, they'll be able to ban them from the parking lot; if just a jerk, he'll be paying my lawyer's retainer for the year.
