What do you do when you have too much time on your hands.....

Today is one of those days...what am I doing, the forum, playing Candy Crush, eating danish which is a no no.
Starting mindless threads like this one. Guess I'll try and schedule a job or two, but the holiday isn't showing much here.

I forget I always learn something new if it's about health or whatever, have a thirst for knowledge, so, guess I'm not a total disaster.....tomorrow after above thread, going to Gold's gym, will start treadmill again. Relationships always need work, keeping reasonably hip, not allowing age to get me down...guess I'm o.k.

Sounds like you’re heading in the right direction, Irene! You’ll be surprised that the typical person chooses to NOT progress and be content with their current self, but reading that easily shows that you’re still moving forward!

The good news is, the spirit remains...at times I feel like a kid, then the body tells me differently. Thinking of volunterring at the senior center (although I hate it there) on aging and staying busy. Dated a retired Judge who teaches current affairs there, and told me I should help aging woman "grow old gracefully". Going tomorrow after the gym to look into it. Will turn 81 next month oy vey!!! Gotta go, doing a dinner tonight...smiling smiley

I don't need money that bad, not what I'd do in my spare time....you do it Troy

I used to donate my magazines at the senior centers or retirement homes but would ask if it was okay first. I used to do alot of stuff when I was a housewife. I would donate fruit from my fruit trees to give to the senior center. Can't forget the look on some of the seniors' faces was like a kid at a candy store. Or sometimes when fruit was priced right like a flat of strawberries when I went to the local fruit stand, I would give some to my mechanic or my local bank branch for just because.
I like to garden and cook, and I used to draw, paint, and play guitar and piano. I still like the first two quite a bit. I don't know why I stopped doing the others.
I'll let you know when that happens.

I do what my family calls "playing with maps." Actually with maps, train, plane and river boat time tables, guide books and Internet sites. I work out the logistics to make simple travel out of complicated itineraries that would work for my next BIG trip. At this time that could well be Switzerland in autumn 2019. Since my sister and BiL might join me for part of their trip that year I am also adding in an option for them to consider that would have them fly into Amsterdam and work their way down the Rhine Valley to meet up in Zurich. Neither of them has the patience for such a deep dive into options and bargains but they would welcome a chance to not rent a car. (The driver cannot safely gawk at the scenery as much as such a route calls for!) Then, again, they have a budget that is about 5 times mine, so do not feel a need to explore so many options. But they were stunned to find that if they fly out of Miami instead of Orlando, they could save up to $600 each, RT, on their preferred airline. So, maybe they will stand me a nice dinner on the trip, lol.

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Lots of time on my hands for the next two weeks...dental work is about it, no jobs this month, can't face anybody...boohoo. Guess house work will be a priority.

Then get lost in a fab book or two or three. Go for early morning walks, sunrise, if cooler temps prevail then. Wear shades and a hat so you feel insulated if you 'can't face anybody.' So walk first, then read. The brain will be more ready for learning.

Have you ever journaled about your life for your daughter? A series of essays about life lessons, some of your best memories of her that she can't remember, what you enjoyed most about your family and friends when you were a little girl? If you are so forward-looking I am not sure how nostalgic you are for the past, but it is what shapes a person. What a gift it could be for your daughter if she knew you in a different light, on the journey to becoming the fabulous person you are today!
Spend too much time here :-) Post on personal blog, which I don't give enough attention to when typing up detailed mystery shopping reports. When the weather cools off I have a list of house projects to tackle.

CABZMOM. my daughter and I always talk about our memories, I have kept shoe boxes full of her letters/cards from college, and she post's pictures of us for my B-day/Mothers day. Last Mothers day she posted a picture of her and I in Mexico City when she was 18 months old, thanking me for introducing her to travel, she has become a seasoned traveler since then, having lived in London after college and her work takes a trip the end of every year, to like Napal, Thailand, etc......yes, one of my favorite things to do, and always surprised at how much she remembers. I always do that, kinda like breathing......having been a divorced Mom, I made up family vacations by up and go, just Jillian and I.........Spending a lot of time on the computer, enjoy playing Candy Crush and my Facebook...but still have time for more. I went to the market this morning (early), and meet a man I'm friends with, so we chat (with my mouth closed..smiling smiley

I will be visiting Chicago Aug. 29th.....she kids saying, Mom if we lived close by, we probably wouldn't be this close....ain't that the truth.

I volunteer at the local humane society. Makes me feel useful, that I have a job, just no paycheck -haha. I also started doing jigsaw puzzles which are really addicting and keep your mind sharp. Probably watch way too much TV and movies but what the hell - now I have the time. I spend time at the local library getting the newest novels and DVD's. It is wierd. All my life I wanted more time and now that I have it sometimes I am at a loss but that feeling passes pretty quickly when I don't have to get up at 5 in the morning to be on shift.

I do it! A little extra money each month. But I miss NY where they were 5 cents each. Where I am now, it's whatever the going price is for aluminum per pound, way less. Ya just never know what kind of dumpster divers are present here in the forum! I dive for coupons, too.
What is having too much time on one's hands? After one satisfies the demands of work, interactions with friends and family, participation in civil and political life, reading through the piles of books on one's desk and nightstand, there is always the public library.
Having a free day I'll respond saying, retired folks (like myself) have time to spare, not a crime...remember all ages are on the forum with different lifestyles, so, maybe one day, your life will allow that, and I go to the library a couple times a week, and do what I want......if it weren't for folks like me having time, their wouldn't be these new threads....smiling smiley

Irene_L.A., There is a difference between having time on one's hands - the freedom to decide what to do when - and having "too much time on [one's] hand." The latter suggests that one cannot fill the time between needed and desired activities, that one sits idle, bored, waiting for time to evaporate. Single words, like, "much," change entire meanings of sentences.
True, but having a day of "much" free time is different than having days of "free" time, so my day of "free" time prompted me to write a useless thread. I'm actually busier with stuff, caring for a house, having a rental, travel, shopping and so on.....whatever.

Live consciously....
When I have too much free time it's because I've injured myself and am forcibly stuck in bed or a recliner. When that happens I read, I play games on my phone, I watch entire seasons of The Great British Baking Show.
I do watch tons of Foodnetwork, T.V., computer, planting....guess it's fun to get new ideas.
