Another side hustle idea. smiling smiley This person was on Good Morning America last year.

The GMA host makes it sound so easy, but I wonder how hard it is to find things you know that people will want?
He has some great ideas. I've done some write-ups for Trip-Advisor, Oyster and Travel and Leisure on New York City and Miami adventures and I have a couple of e-books. I keep writing, hoping that one day I will break that $4.75 an hour celing lol. Every little bit counts.

The only one I plan to do is tutoring Chinese kids English, as I have an English Literature minor. Although, you don't really need an English degree/minor. It just helps.

I agree with what the video host says about avoiding really bad jobs like Mechanical Turk, though. Those tasks-for-pay places will leave you earning like $2.00/hour. It's like reverse outsourcing. Instead of sending our jobs overseas for people in desperate countries to do them for cents on the dollar, it's offering Americans at home in need to work for what amounts to less than minimum wage.
Nothing wrong with that. You're worth what you're willing to work for. One of my kids does a lot of the work you referenced. He enjoys spending some of his leisure time "digging" for information. People are willing to pay for the skill and the time. He learns a lot about diverse topics, helps others, and earns a little extra money on top of his regular job. Nobody's going to pay $10/hr or whatever the minimum is for him to sit in his bathrobe at 2 am doing research.

Alright, who can tell me about "clearance reselling?"

I'm looking into this after watching the video (post #2). Does anyone do it? Who wants to learn & explore with me in the thread?
I haven't discovered what that magical thing is, that everyone wants and will pay money for. I've had some success on both eBay and Amazon, but it's not reliable. There is a lot of prep work to selling on eBay. Amazon is tough because they have crazy strict seller rules and metrics that have to be adhered to. Both sites have seller fees that can eat you up alive and remember, the product also has to be $hipped. I've also dabbled in the piece work field, but lost interest.

From the GMA vid, they make it sound easy, because of the "fulfilled by Amazon" process. So, shipping is handled by Amazon. Although, maybe you're referring to shipping TO Amazon initially?

I think it could be worth looking into. I'm going to look through my WalMart's clearance section the next time I go and take notes on what they have and what the prices are and then look up the items on the Walmart website. If the difference in price is huge, maybe that could be an item to resell.

Do sites like Amazon or Walmart have stats on what items sell the most?
Shoptastic, you can have your product listed on Amazon and then fulfilled by Amazon, but they charge you "rent" and probably some sort of handling fee. They call it something else, but basically, they have a fee for the cubic feet that your stuff takes up in their warehouses. It is something they offer to high volume sellers. I am not even close to that level. Yes, there are stats on what sells well - believe it's called sales rank. Go take a look around (hope this is ok) SellerCentral.Amazon.Com They make it look all friendly & fun, but once you get in - whew!
I know - right? I use flat rate shipping for the bigger items, so that helps a lot to keep overall costs down.

EBay is killing me with their fees.

How does Amazon compare? What ARE the fees these days?
My coworker just said the fees are almost double what EBay charges. I find that painful
brickseek.com is how to find clearence deals if you know the upc/sku. Its not 100% accurate due to theft, employee incompetence, and computer error.

slickdeals.net often lists great finds from there

He probably has a computer program to do the research on trending items or a research account with a social media company access.

Back in the day when Abercrombie & Fitch was shopped, I once bought a long striped winter scarf on clearance at an outlet for about $5 and sold it on eBay for $40. I went back and bought all of them and resold them. They moved quickly at first, but the last few took forever and at reduced prices. I don't seek out such things, but if they pop up at me, I buy for resell. I can't imagine making millions doing that, but it's fun once in awhile.
