All of these food shops....and our weight

I actually dread then one day I will find the company that shops five guys, others search for it, I hope to never find it.

I cannot blame food shops or food, generally. My thyroid is the culprit. It changes periodically and without notice. Often, just when I have found the key to weight loss for that level and have made some progress, the thyroid changes and I need new meds, a few weeks to find out if they work, and a different approach. I have been stalled at size 14-18 for months. (The size range reflects brands and styles.) I know that anyone who performs food shops also has access to the nutrition information for the foods they order and/or eat. Any food shopper can adjust their diet and supplements as needed or desired and offset some typical weight triggers that may be associated with the sweetness, saltiness, or fatness of food. Protein, fiber, pungency, and water go very far to help with hydration, blood sugar levels, hunger, etc.

@oteixeira So much of it comes down to genetics. I am a 60-year-old male, and have arguably the WORST eating habits of anyone I know. I have a passing acquaintance with will power. (Yes, there is goes!"winking smiley Yes, I am overweight. That being said, each time I go to the doctor for my routine check-ups, he always marvels, "Your numbers (i.e. good and bad cholesterol, triglycerides, etc.) are always so good!" I do not limit FSR assignments based on health considerations. (I do limit Five Guys simply due to the out-of-pocket expense until reimbursed.)

@HonnyBrown Loved your analogy about Five Guys and Las Vegas! LOL
@Opanel My wife is just like you. Me, I have to be super careful or my numbers go through the roof! As it is I take BP pills, but the rest I control with diet, but sometimes I struggle.

Fortunately, I have always had low blood pressure, but I am on a low salt diet due to Meniere's Disease. I do 5 Guys anyway, and only eat a few fries if they aren't overly salted. I've had some with so much salt they were not edible. I don't cook or add salt to my meals, but there is so much in prepared foods. You'd be surprised how much salt is in everyday products. Before I had Meniere's, I once had a doctor tell me I should start eating MORE salt because of the low blood pressure, especially in summer. Double edged sword. On a side note, I lost over 10 pounds when McD's stopped their mystery shopping. I have no will power and would eat both sandwiches..not the fries though. So disgusting!!

Having been to Chicago where the food is off the wall good...(I even had a Chicago dog), my daughter walked me ragged, and wala, I lost 3 pds. and wasn't hungry for carbs.....keeping it up (I promise). Feeling so much better, lugging those pounds around, not a good thing....now to go to my car and drive the mile to SB......LOL

Live consciously....
I eat one half (or less) of my meal.

I taste everything, as required.

I usually bring the rest home and eat it the next day.
Irene, that is how things are done in LA: jog 5 miles for exercise, then drive next door.

We need food as fuel for our bodies. We don't need food for enjoyment, celebration or comfort. None of us (hopefully) are starving. Why do we feel the need to overdo it with food?

Everyone is guilty of this, whether it is doing 4 food shops in one day, or special celebrations a few times a year.

I take all the ones I can get, where the pay is decent. I might eat a few bites, or sometimes not eat any at all. Then give it away to friends or actually have saw homeless people and given it to them. I never eat a full meal at any place I do.
Food is comfort, we learn that from being a child (finish your dinner) I love good food, but finally stopped doing the burger shops to keep my recent weight loss down. Moderation is the key, but enjoying a good meal with a friend is part of my culture and yes, I love good food, but I love my size 8's more....

I am first generation in this country, from a western European family. Basically, growing up, food=love. Really, it still does. If I go in a relatives house and refuse food, it is an insult to them. Because of this, I treat food like a thing to enjoy more then a thing my body needs. It is very easy for me to overdo it, and to be honest, I have gained a few (less then 5) pounds since I started back with MSing. I will need to either slow down or do a better job with my portion control, because for me, MSing is as much for a nice meal out as it is for the money. Looking at this month ahead, every single shop I have scheduled is a restaurant, whether takeout or eat in. Oops.

I agree with you oteixeira MSing is as much for a nice meal out as it is for the money and most of my shops are food too. Don't feel bad about that. I look at it as my splurges of the month and if I don't pay for them with my money, I feel a little better about splurging, but with that said, I still watch how much I eat at each meal and never finish the entire required purchase. That is for health reasons and not weight gain. I am one of those lucky people who never gains weight but have other concerns that I need to be mindful of. Irene I totally agree with you, food is comfort. I go by the 80/20 rule. Most of my 20 splurges are when I do the food shops. LOL
I haven't had a food shop for awhile. However, yesterday I had lunch at a shopped place, but not as a mystery shop. I ate only what I wanted, which was about half of the required food purchases for the shop. I love the idea of food shops, but I really prefer to eat what I want, when I am hungry. This is even better than bringing home leftovers from a shop.

I appreciate food shops because I don't have to cook or go grocery shopping. I can eat a small portion there, and portion the rest out over a few meals at home.

Changes in eating out for a shop....I now always take half the salad home, and after two fries, I'm done.....
my tummy has scrunk and my new portion control are helping me not gain, in fact I've lost 1/2pd. everyday this week.

As a young female, I have a very different perspective on food shops. For me, they're calories to save money. I buy the cheapest calories I can since food is one of my biggest expenses as a gluten-free person.

Try carrying pre-cut healthy snacks with you - carrots, celery, cucumber, nuts, etc, then you can munch on the way there and be a little full. Don't be afraid to take home leftovers or even only eat a bite of one specific part to save it. I almost always save my fries and then add cheese or chili when I'm home for a whole second meal, like Irene said.

That being said, you should probably make an effort to schedule different kinds of shops. There are definitely more out there that would probably fit with your life and travel.
When I first started shopping 7 years ago, I took every restaurant shop imaginable. McD's, Five Guys, Bob Evans, Cheesecake Factory, Ruth Chris, Auntie Anne's. And 7 years later I rarely allow myself to do a restaurant shop. I had gained weight and I already suffer from high cholesterol. I used to think of them as "free meals" but it's not free if it's costing me my health.
Dare, exactly! You pay for those meals one way or another.

I had a Five Guys shop for lunch on Saturday. I just finished the last of it (little BCB and little fries) this morning for breakfast.
