Rest, respected and in freedom.

Very much mourning the loss of my Queen A. I had the opportunity to meet her about 18 years ago, in an unlikely scenario. I was working at a production company here in Detroit, and Aretha was arriving to tape an interview with some news show, I can't remember the name. Anyway, one our regular cameramen was not able to be there, so I (editor, animator, graphic artist) got pulled in to run a camera. I had done it before, but it was Aretha. I was super nervous about getting the shot right, double and triple checking my settings as she waling into the studio with her entourage. As she settled into her seat with the host, she noticed me, and I guess her experience clued her in that I was not a regular on the set. She asked me my name, and told me "Just relax young man, all you have to do is make sure I'm in focus. You'll be fine".

Ms. Franklin, I will miss you. You have done so much for our community. Thank you for your music, your service, your generosity, and your humanity. Your music taught me about empathy in relationships and how to be a real man. And I could dance to it. RESPECT,.
