So I was thinking about the latest California fires and the inflammatory Trump tweet. 140 characters could not tell us much, so I did a little web search and found this.

Do the referenced images correspond to lifestyles at specific times in California's history? Does author Chuck DeVore adequately provide a history of events that fed or led into California's susceptibility? Is any of this information a sufficient background for the little tweet? Readers can decide for themselves about that. I just like to think about things and hope for a better future. What will help California?

I've lived here since 1970, so know first hand the changes and feel I'm better than a survey. Water shortage and no rain (to speak of) have left our state dried out, making our vast brush dry and when the winds come up, and a fire starts, (unlike before), embers blow to different areas, hence many fires are started beside the original one.
This is what is happening now...L.A. is vast with miles of overgrown DRY brush. The water shortage and fires will now lead to rationing, so, rain is our answer, plus don't forget about climate change and L.A. having no seasons, it's Nov. and today will be 80%. This is a summary of what I've seen through the last 5 years. Cannot put the blame on anyone, very ignorant thing to do, definitely a natural problem. I remember going to Yosemite and hiking the falls, only to find them dry and no, there was no fire. Taking one survey out of the many done is a very limited viewpoint. although interesting, not entirely true.

I have not been in California since about thirty years ago, so I love this input from a long-timer. Irene, who is responsible for clearing away the dried brush? In California, are there designated agencies that perform that work?

I'm not sure, but it would cost a fortune to do this as L.A. alone is vast...who would do it is a good question and who would pay for it (taxpayers)? I do think there is funding, but certainly not enough to continue this feat throughout CA. When we had a "normal" weather pattern, including rain, we didn't have this type of fire, we always had fires, but not to the degree of what has been going on the last 5 years, with this the worst in history.
We get a portion of water from the Colorado River...we actually got snow which when melted filled our reservoirs. The question becomes, can man control nature?

I think a key and uncomfortable version of that great question is: Was this burning inevitable, as in was it time for certain parts of the earth (which humans have dubbed California) to start over with fresh flora simply because nature has a schedule for these things and humans were in the way?

To above post, did your version of needing "fresh Flora" also mean taking homes away and killing people...just asking...do you ever write or think about the reality of it all.....

Yes. I do. Experts provide explanation and insights, which I utilize. According to various experts, nature must go through its renewals from time to time. Nature is no respecter of humans and their structures and their choices; it just renews itself or dies. Due to drought and built-up dry brush and other fire-enhancing conditions, parts of California were ready to burn. Apparently, information about these conditions was available for years before this year's fires. If people chose to remain in a veritable tinder box or were there because they felt they had no other option such as relocating or leaving, they were in nature's way-- the same nature that has its own timetable and no respect for humans.

I take no offense at your remarks because my concerns are moving steadily in the direction of safety in California and the rest of our country.

Was any of this preventable? How can the next version of California- whatever remains or is built after the fires are gone-- be safer for its residents? What can leaders and residents of other states learn from the California situation, and how soon can they identify and implement any needed changes for their unique conditions and situations?

NOT BUYING IT, but you are entitled to believing the books, however, we have fires every year, this is not the first, just the largest.....those not living in a vast state, and I presume you are in a rural area, but small and controllable. Not having rain for years is part of the problem.

I like this from Billy Graham: "Only when we are in court are we required to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth." Note well that the lying professor was not in a court of law. She was in the Congress which she hijacked, having received a boarding pass of sorts from her state's Senator, Diana Feinstein. The multi-degreed professor's tale was not sufficient for a court of law. It did not even stand up to careful questioning by an experienced questioner.

Irene, are you certain that it is best to castigate people such as myself for wanting truth instead of doggedly and possibly blindly accepting false allegations from apparently well credentialed persons? So far, you have lashed out because I do not believe Blasey Ford and I do believe that California has much work to do in understanding and preventing future raging incidents. In the same vein, JASFLALMT has called me a contrarian for having a truth-seeking stance. Apparently, the world needs more contrarians...

I was reading something about Directed Energy as it related to some of the fires in California. Not wholly convinced, but it was an interesting theory.
