I've always been partial to the Rodney Strong cab. There's this Lebanese red, Ksara I believe, that is divine. I haven't seen it in a restaurant years. Anyone?
I'm not a wine drinker per say, but went to high school with the son of Krug's Winery in Sonoma/Napa Valley and do like their upscale wines. He gave everyone a bottle upon graduating. Red wine is so strong.

Fun! Yes, some are strong. But they are good for my soul. And blood pressure. And cholesterol. And anything any scientist wants to say it is good for.
I'll drink your homebrew, too!

I went to France in September. I gained mad respect for merlot. I even had a cru.

My mission, and I choose to accept, is to explore all the merlots at Total Wines. This is in addition to my usual purchases.

With a title like that, you are bringing out the winos in the forum.

I like red blends. There are so many to try!

Last year the Nouveau from Trader Joe's was surprisingly good. I was excited to see this year's had come in. Didn't last long. The stuff is swill. It is the first time I've ever returned an open bottle to them.

Lisa, I'm surprised you had a good one. They are usually swill because the grapes haven't been developed. It's a novelty wine.

I found Malbec a few years ago and it quickly became my favorite red.

If the Nouveau you speak of is what I know as 2 Buck Chuck, I always liked it, but havent bought it in years. I've been getting the Winking Owl box. It's drinkable and does the trick.
Details! I love malbecs!

Okay, don't take away my wino card.

Bota Box (wine in a box) has a red blend called Nighthawk Dark that is amazing! The best way to describe it is "jammy." It has a rich, full body with a heavy, spicy finish.

It is probably the best blend I have tried.

Every November, winemakers put out a bottles of beaujolais nouveau from the beaujolais gamay grapes. It's basically the first grape of the harvest. To me they are usually flat.

Two Buck Chucks are chardonnays and cabernets, also grape types.

Duh. Nouveau. I really did serve, bartend and manage fine dining restaurants for a decade. Maybe I need a glass.

Thanks Honny
Honny, I have never had an even slightly bad Malbec. Even the BottaBox one is quite good as an everyday wine.

I enjoy a good nouveau and have had quite a few over the years. Like nslinhar, I know what it is. So what if it is a "novelty" wine. The novelty has been around for a century.

I well remember a Chicago IMSC conference. LisaStL bootlegged in a case, if I recall correctly, of Two Buck Chuck and a merry time was afoot.

What I meant by "Duh" was that I forgot the term. I never cared for the DeBoeuf Beaujolais Nouveau. Ill take 2 Buck over that any day.
Okay, that's a regular thing for you. I like wine for the flavor, not the date. After trying a few nouveaus in different years that had bad-to-me flavors, I was done.

I stated I enjoy them and you somehow twisted that to mean it is not for the flavor, just the date. Good grief. That is actually worse than treating the rest of us like we know nothing about wines or grapes.

Are you drunk? I didn't twist anything. Your wine comes out once a year, in November. The wines that I drink cross varietal, location and date boundaries. That clearly (it really does, in my opinion) make you the expert.

The more I learn about wine, the less I know.

I'm drinking a Bota Nighthawk Dark. It's a red blend that I fell in love with. Red wines are supposed to be refrigerated 20 minutes before drinking. I left this in overnight. It didn't taste very good.

Lesson learned.
