I just got the 2015 Kirkland Signature Alexander Valley Cabarnet Sauvignon. Wasn't too sweet and paired well with pasta.

Mum, cabernets pair well with so many foods!
When I lived in LA, I took a pairing class at a restaurant. Management offered the class to employees so they would know what wines to recommend with the new menus. They opened it up by invitation to regular customers. Distributors would come in and talk about the wines.
The most memorable pairing I did was champagne and parmesan cheese. The flavor was completely changed.

Please don't laugh at me, I picked up "BAREFOOT'" Cabernet Sauvignon which is heavy and I'm betting I'll have a headache in a minute or so......

I also enjoy Malbec wines, and began drinking them before they became popular. The ones from the Mendoza region of Argentina tend to be the best, and even the least expensive are very drinkable. The ones from Chile are also good. My new recommendation is the Carmenere varietal. The best also come from Argentina, although some of the Carmenere from Chile are superb.

@Irene_L.A. Barefoot is a bit fruity for my taste although they say it's dry. Not too bad with cheese. I hope you are okay.
Barefoot makes good wines.

Irene, if you didn't like the sangiovese, try a pinot noir. Columbia Crest makes a good one. If you get it from Trader Joe's and you don't like it, you can return it.

Wow! I have finally found the Nighthawk Black that Honny suggested. (Local store had to order it.) That is like wine dark satin! Who would have thunk it of a "bargain" wine?

That wine is lush! How do you like the pinot? Bota has a Nighthawk Red that is good, but nowhere close to the Black. They make some good blends.

I also like their Pinot Grigio. Have not tried the ponot noir. I drink more white than red.

I usually drink chardonnays, but since I found Nighthawk Black, I haven't had any whites.

I, too, prefer Chardonnay. I have not had even a glass of Nighthawk Black. But, I am buying Nighthawk Black to give as a special-occasion gift. Bargain price of $19.99. I'll be spending an evening with the recipient, so hopefully will get a taste.

My store was out of Bota Box on Sunday, so I bought a different cab that was on sale. It was a Fish Eye brand. It's nowhere near as lush as Nighthawk Black, but delicious nonetheless.
