Nifty little voice recorder

I live in a state where both parties need to agree to a voice recording. For years I have used a condenser microphone and fairly expensive DVR to record my notes while out on shops. I just tried a new cheapie--Evida, found on Amazon. It goes on sale from time to time at $13 and change, has no visible microphone, looks like a thumb drive and is only a plug in USB stick. Sound quality is remarkable. Claims 36 hours before needing to recharge. I use Sound Organizer (freebie downloadable software) to download my notes and they are crystal clear, even when the recorder was several feet away from me. Nothing sophisticated--no pause, no playback on the device itself, simply an 'on/off' button. The Sound Organizer software allows jumping around on the sound file saved to it. Worth considering if you are looking for a DVR or want a backup.

How does the sound quality compare to the recorder on your phone? I use that as a baseline.

Phone sound quality varies a lot. I personally am not at all fond of using my phone for notes, which is why I use a recorder. This evening's dining had my keys and the thumb together on the table. When the waitress left I could easily flip on the recorder while 'toying with it', timings and any other observations. A phone picked up after each table visit seems to me too much of a 'tell'.

I use the "Voice Recorder App" on my phone. It's easy peasy. It runs in the background. It's free. It's just one button for record. The sound quality and sound reach is amazing. [play.google.com]. I turn it on and catch everything. I use it for notes, conversations, etc.

Shopping Arkansas, Louisiana, & Mississippi.

I have a Tammano USB recorder/thumb drive. I thought I had lost mine and bought a cheaper one.....nope! Returned it and got another Tammano from Amazon. Super easy to use and you can plug it into your laptop and it creates a wave file to attach to reports. Of course I found my recorder once I got another one, but this is the easiest thing to use. On/Off....that is it!

The issue here is, "It runs in the background." Legally in Florida you must have the consent of both parties to audio record a conversation. Background recording will not be just recording yourself. While it is perfectly fine to repeat what was just said to me onto a recording device, it needs to be me saying it, not the person who said it without their permission to be recorded.

I am not going to pontificate. I try to run my business in a legal and ethical manner and thus feel I have the right to expect the same of the companies with whom I work. I have dismissed some companies because I felt they did not rise to my expectations and been personally offended when some have implied that law bending is acceptable. After many years in this business I am comfortable working with companies where there is justifiably earned mutual trust.
