How terrible. A dear, dear friend and I had only 36 hours in Paris. So, we stayed at a romantic pension nearby and visited the cathedral three times; morning, early evening and midnight. And we could hear the bells where we stayed. On the midnight visit we actually encountered another frond from the US. This was all in about 1977. It was a sort of highlight of a lifetime; impossible to forget.

Over the centuries, many great cathedrals have suffered devastating fire. I have no doubt that Notre Dame will be rebuilt, as has been the tradition with virtually all of them. It is comforting to remember that such great edifices seem to have a life cycle that appears to include rising, phoenix-like, from the ashes. We may not live to see it, but I have faith that it will be so.

WOW! I was there in September. It was stunning and intricate.

i remember taking my daughter when she was 15 on a Paris Art tour, and this is such a tragedy...all that art lost.
She was in Paris a couple years ago when they had the Suicide bomber, and now this.....it is heart breaking.
I adore old Art and buildings, has such character and not affordable to rebuild.

Live consciously....
Visiting Notre Dame was a highlight of my travels through Europe some 30 years ago. This is unfortunate and sad.

Hard work builds character and homework is good for your soul.
