Slot Machines

I have found this new machine at the bingo hall where I play bingo. It has been pretty good to me so far. I am hoping someone with math skills will let me know the better choice here. When the bonus is hit there are 3 selections. One is for 15 games with 1,000 plus different ways to win, the second choice is 10 games for something like 2,000 ways to win and the last is 5 games for 3,000 plus ways to win. The ways to win are approximate as I don't have them memorized. The first time I hit the bonus the man next to me told me to select the 5 games. I won around $160 on the bonus. Yesterday when I was playing I hit the bonus and again selected the 5 games. I only won around $60. My question is which is a better selection. Thank you for taking the time to answer me.

I have a degree in math and know a little bit about casino games...

1. You are talking about slot machines. There is no “better choice.” All slots are designed to give the house a significant advantage while letting the player win just enough times to keep tempting him/her into coming back - and losing. Slots are what keep big casinos in business.

2. That said, there might be a “less bad” choice. However, you need to provide a lot more information before this can be computed.

3. If you are looking to earn money gambling, many blackjack games can be beaten - but not without a considerable amount of study and practice - and there is still risk. This is a poor choice for 99.9% of folks.

Oh, no MF Johnson. I just like to play the slots from time to time while I'm at bingo and would like to come out ahead once in a while. I don't play tables as I don't understand them which is a good thing as if I did then I would loose more money.
Good. If you needed to guess at the less bad game, it would likely be the one with the least exciting payout. That is very typical.

The odds of winning on a slot machine can be changed quickly by the casino. This was true even when they really were mechanical one-armed bandits. The machines are set so that over time, the house wins. If the house did not win, they would be out of business. Some state gambling commissions set the payout ratio, but believe me, the ratio ALWAYS favors the house. As someone pointed out, the goal is to keep you playing. If you win big (whatever that means to you), leave quickly. If you enjoy gambling, decide how much you can afford to lose. When you hit that limit, leave. As was pointed out in an earlier post, the odds in blackjack can be tilted in favor of the player, but you need to know a lot and you have to realize that when you are caught card counting (the only way to tilt the odds), you are likely to be shown the door and banned from the casino. Here is an easy to read article about how the students from MIT beat the casinos: [www.bbc.com]

Thanks everyone. I bet 50 cents. Can't bring myself to bet any higher. I like to wander around the slot floor and look at the credits some people have. Some have a lot and they are betting $2.00 and up. Some have very few credits. My limit is $20. When I see that I am going to loose I usually cash out around $5. If I should be winning and have exceeded my $20 I cash out.
What I have noticed is that weekdays the slots seem to be a little looser, but come Friday, they cinch right up. The other thing that works for me, is working your way up to max bet, but as MFJ states, the house always has the advantage.
@Monk-N-Nut in most states, this is illegal. You might see more wins on a weekday because there are less people playing. There is a legal amount that a casino has to payout and the most popular casinos have the highest payout. This doesn't mean you'll ever win. I've been gambling since I turned 21, 24 years ago and there is no guarantee, no quick and easy way to win or anything like that. It is all about luck and a formula that casinos use to keep fools like us coming time and time again.

Oh, Jenny most of know there's no sure fire easy way to win. The weekday observation is what I have seen over the years, legal or not. And on my last trip to Laughlin, it still seems to be in effect.
New games and slots nearest the door seem to pay out better, in my experience.
