I was pleasantly surprised to see Germ X hand sanitizer at Wegman's yesterday. I was fortunate enough to get a big 32 oz bottle of it. But they had TONS of the small pocket-size bottles of it so must be the supply is catching up. And I was fortunate enough to get disinfecting wipes at Walmart. I didn't need them but I knew some friends did so going to deliver them today.

I tried to get some banana extract at Walmart and they were out. Then a few days later Wegman's had it. Phew. I don't think I could go through this pandemic without banana extract.

When I bought booze from the local distillery, they gave out a free hand sanitizer that they made in each order, but they're not selling it. They're distributing it to local hospitals, 1st responders, etc. The other local distillery is selling it in every single size you can imagine, including a 5 gallon bucket. If anyone is looking for sanitizer, check to see if local distilleries or breweries are making it. Most of the craft distillers in my state are doing it.

Oh yeah. That just reminded me that I also saw that available at Wegman's. It comes in a big bottle with the distillery's logo on it. Like in your area, it was initially made for hospitals, etc. Now it's in stores to buy. The one tiny downside is you will have to put it in a spray bottle to use as the kind here is liquid, not gel.

Yeah, so I hear as well, but that shockwave hasn't hit my region yet. There are some pretty good meat sales going on at my favorite grocery store. But I am definitely going to stock up! My chest freezer isn't huge and already has a nice variety of food in it, but I ordered a whole tenderloin I am going to cut up into steaks, as well as some more bacon. I have plenty of other meats already.

So do I, but if I have 1 cubic inch of space in the freezer I am going to find something to put in it. Nobody knows where this is going, or how long it will take to get there. And I don't care anymore if it's on sale or not, which is REAAALLLLY unusual for me.

Yeah, I am going to have to rearrange to consolidate my space most effectively so I can fit what I ordered in it.

I do still care if it's on sale. The beef tenderloin is Angus beef $9.99 a pound and the bacon is $2.99 a pound. Can't pass that up. I still have the frozen pork tenderloins I bought at $1.99 a pound and skinless boneless chicken breasts I got for $1.88 a pound, also some chicken thighs for .89 cents a pound. Plus some sausages, veggies, frozen shrimp (16-20 count I bought for $6.99 a pound), and a huge Stouffer's lasagna that I bought awhile back before I knew we weren't going to be having family dinners for awhile. Have no idea what to do with that since it's just me and hubby. Maybe in August we can have the kids over for dinner, but they all work essential jobs around other people and I don't want any cooties over here. So....

I needed two of these big boys to paint a two-bedroom apartment including doors, ceilings, door frames, and ample supply of matching touch-up paint for future needs. This is a lot of product! I need to do this again, but...

... So the add-on sales would include smaller containers from which refills are made and still smaller units with spray or pour features that people actually use. You could buy one for each vehicle, each family member, each backpack, each purse, each room of the house, each holiday stocking, and who knows what else. To be safe, you would discard each smallest container and use a fresh one for each refill. This could be lucrative! How can I get into this biz?

I know of an acquaintance who has sourced some. She fills up small bottles and hawks them on a busy corner in Phoenix for $1 each. Apparently shes making money hand over fist.

Yeah, that's my question about a 5 gallon bucket. You'd have to either siphon or install a tap at the bottom. Either way, it seems very clumsy.

He probably placed the drum next to a drum pump and was still clueless.

I just was told by a virologist that it needs to be 70% alcohol to be effective against coronavirus. Germ-X is usually 62-63% alcohol. I have a 4 oz bottle of it too. It sucks.

Target's Up & Up brand is 70% alcohol. I checked.

If you have some rubbing alcohol at home you can add it to the Germ X you bought to make it more potent so it is effective and doesn't go to waste.

They 5 gallon bucket comes with a pump, it's mostly being used in emergency settings. It's the same kinda pump they give you when you get water delivery and don't have the dispenser that puts it out hot or cold. The 2 containers I've gotten are gel and you can pour them out just like the kind at the dollar store.

Hmmmm. My banana extract i found has alcohol in it. If i combine the two maybe it will reach 70% and will smell nice!

Just kidding, of course. Wouldnt waste my banana extract like that.

On a serious note, I want to do all kinds of rustic and back-to-basics things that I never thought of doing before! '

Extracts sound like a great idea, but so does brewing booze...yeah.

Yes, but you have to use the 91% rubbing alcohol. You can't use the 70% because you'll never get to 70% by adding 70%. I only have 70% at home. 91% is hard to find and has been since the end of February.

The hand sanitizer that the local brewery was making was 80%. Although that was a liquid so i dont know how it would mix with gel?

Oh wow. Things i am learning. Ive been doing a lot more cooking and am doing spring cleaning now with my free time. I am still working my f/t job though.

I got some 5 gallon buckets and potting mix to grow tomatoes and peppers in. Now it just needs to warm up a bit.

Yes, I read where the head of Tyson took out a full page ad in 3 major newspapers discussing the possibility of this. So yesterday I went to Aldi's and stocked up on chicken, angus beef, organic hamburger, organic bacon, salmon, ground turkey and a few other items. Spend $89.54 and got a bunch of stuff. Vacuum sealed the chicken, but the beef and salmon already are sealed to prevent icing, so that's neat. With what I already had in our freezer, we should be good for quite a while, since it's just hubby and myself.

Why are there no small bags of rice? I do not want a 10lb bag. I went to 3 different stores yesterday and only the gigantic bags available. I ended up getting some Jasmine Rice - which was delicious and also about 3X the price of the normal white.

I love Jasmine rice! That and basmati are fragrant and delicious. I think it's worth the extra $.

As far as regular white rice goes, do you know other family members or friends that would be willing to split a 10 lb bag? You could separate it into ziplocks. Get like 4-5 people who are interested. I personally could go through a pound a month with just the two of us. But I am more inclined to wild or brown for more regular use.

Basmati is my favorite. The rice will last. Just split it up into baggies and put it in your pantry. You won't have to buy any for a long time.
