Why do people eat at Sonic?

They consistently have mediocre customer service, a run down facility look, and low-quality, poorly prepared, unhealthy, and un-tasty food at a price point that isn't better than its fast food competitors.

We have no Sonic in Canada.
But Hubby is not allowed to ask me any question that begins with, "Why do you...?" LOL

The answer is always, "Because I want to. Why do you watch and play hockey?"

Heh. I have a feeling if he ever tried Sonic, even he'd break his own no asking rule and be like: "Who on Earth would eat HERE?!" winking smiley
When I did the shops, my husband got the bounty after I took the picture and a bite of the food. He liked the footlong coney with cheese, rings or tots, and limeade.
Yes, corn dogs are great from there!

Two locations in my city actually have a very well-maintained facility, friendly staff, and well-prepared food (even if the ingredient quality is low and tastiness subpar for me). The other seven or locations are very poorly run.
I go for the drinks. Usually at happy hour!

The ones here are fine. I've actually missed my cheeseburger fix. I could run through the drive-thru on my own dime I guess, but shopping has totally ruined me in that regard. I want the MSC to pay.

For me, it depends on the location. smiling smiley I find the cheeseburger acceptable (at two locations...maybe three at most, although that one is very inconsistent) when I'm hungry, but it doesn't something I'd buy on my own dime EVER.

The only thing I'd ever buy on my own dime is a corn dog, onion rings, and tater tots at a "good location" if I'm hungry. I usually order a chili cheese dog and tots for my shops.
It's my rule. I refuse to be asked or to answer the question about why I like things.

Many of you are likely too young to remember Ann Landers, who was an advice columnist like her sister, "Dear Abby." Ann Landers had far and away THE BEST answer to any such question that was truly no one's business. "Why do you want to know that?"

I don't have a thumbs up button (and don't know how to do it), so I shall: smiling smiley

Simple. I eat there because I get PAID to eat there.

I used to get paid to eat there. I've said it before, but I would literally under-eat the day of my shop to make myself hungry by the time of the shops. You'd be surprised how good Sonic tastes when you've not eaten much all day.

But, the real question is: Would ya eat there on your own dime? If you had infinite money, would you ever choose Sonic? tongue sticking out smiley

Because it's fun to know! smiling smiley
Although, I suspect it can also be at times to validate one's own sense of taste. That is how the human mind/soul can work at times. smiling smiley
If I had infinite money, I would NEVER eat out. I would have a chef who lived in my mansion and cooked me anything I wanted.

I don't mind Sonic food. I sadly eat all the tots cus I love them.

I believe I've done 17.3 trillion Sonic shops where I've ordered their fries. Out of those, I believe 6 to 8x have their fries been prepared properly (usually always at the two good locations hear me). 17.2xxxx.... trillion other times, their fries have been stale, under-fried, over-fried (with a dark brown color and heavy oil taste), overly salted, totally unsalted, and/or wilted and limp. Totally bizarre. Most locations cannot seem to master the art of fries near me.

Their tater tots, on the other hand, are prepared fantastically at most locations near me (even the bad ones). I have no idea what that is. Maybe more people order tater tots and they have to prepare them fresh constantly and the fries sit? That wouldn't entirely explain the proper preparation at the good locations, though.
I'm with ceasesmith, I do it for the money! I would never choose to spend my own $ there (or most other ff/fc). But, different strokes. I would ask the same original question about Arby's though. Some people like it but that mystery meat just grosses me out!

Would the chef be making Sonic replica burgers and fries?
LOL. Elon Musk has infinite money, and he turned up at my local Five Guys the other day. There's a Tesla charging station there, but still...

Yes. On my own dime, I would eat chicken sandwiches. Because no one pays me to do this...

I hear that the Rich and Famous occasionally get a wild hair and venture out to see what the little people are doing. It's their version of walking on the Wild Side.

I saw Elon Musk on NASA TV during a SpaceX interview. He came off as a normal, humble guy to me. I can definitely see him eating at a Five Guys for a quick lunch with the team, but not a Sonic.... That said, I really like Sonic's cheeseburger and tots. I shop about ten locations near my home and there is DEFINITELY a food quality difference between the locations. I probably would not eat there if I were not getting paid to do so.

What really bothers me is the dress and grooming of the employees. Their t-shirts always look well-worn and the name tags are a mess. The carhops look NOTHING like the picture in the guidelines. In my humble opinion, Sonic needs to implement a dress code similar to McDonald's or Chick-fil-a. At least, they should try to upscale a LITTLE. Many times, I have seen employees enter the building and their physical appearance grossed me out. (Are these people cooking my food?) And don't get me started on the restrooms! It has been a true blessing during COVID-19 that shoppers do not need to evaluate the restroom!
Quite possible.

But I'd go for the tots over fries any day.

I declare myself superior to you and your inferior tastes. I wouldn't wish Sonic on my worst enemy!

Speaking of tater tots, I must say, these are fantastic looking and if I had a gourmet chef serve me, I'd want something like this: [www.youtube.com]

They wear patterned shirts in my area. They are the same designs, but different colors. Their uniforms are never an issue here.

Just the buildings feel like they all need a make-over. Compared to other ff places like Chick-Fil-A, Taco Bell, KFC, etc., which are modern looking and clean here, their buildings and drive-in areas have this old, dark, and worn feel to them. Maybe it's their color scheme. It's not attractive. It's hard to describe...It feels like I'm going into some dungeon or something when I do my shops. LOL. Two locations are quite nice, however.
Now that I think of it, their lighting is really off-putting. Many ff places have these colored lamps that are shined onto the building and/or "encased" somehow that creates a softer, glowing light. Sonic's overhead white lights are harsh. It feels like you're at a sports stadium. The yellow colors are very not appealing either in their signage and on the trim of their buildings and car eating slots....that yellow and red color doesn't do it for me.

Add it all up with their color scheme and type of lighting and I dislike being there.
