Graduation Party

I'm hosting a high school graduation party for my son. I'm new at this. What is one tip you can share to make it a smashing success? Thank you.

Be a presence and then stay out of the way. Get the food and beverages out, let the kids know where there are more if wanted and once about half of the guests have arrived, go to your room, close the door and read a book. Let your son know that if things get out of hand to come get you, otherwise they are adults now.
If it's a large party, you could make a list/spreadsheet of:
- all of the foods and beverages you plan to serve
- where to buy the ingredients
- what food preparation steps can be done ahead of time (and how many days/hours ahead)
- all of the non-food needs (utensils, napkins, folding chairs, area to deposit gifts/cards, etc)
Ah, preconceived notions . . . when you said graduation party I assumed your son and his friends. That is when you stay out of the way. If it is your son and your friends and family it is almost as much about you as about him because you get the bragging rights on your kid. That is where ColoradoShops ideas come into play.
Also, if it will be a teen party, remember that if alcohol is served to underage persons in your home, you can be held legally responsible, even if you claim not to have realized that it was happening.

So, do let your son understand why this cannot happen on
"you watch."

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Thanks for the helpful responses. It will be a party for family and friends. No alcohol will be served. I want to avoid any potential problems.
Congrats-- for the graduation and the party!

Congratulations to your son! As a Mom who had her baby's party cancelled due to Covid, other than great food and your availability to converse with all, a poster picture of your son that every guest gets to sign would be memorable. We have had one created via Shutterfly. My immediate family is going out for an outdoor brunch two Saturdays from now at our favorite local bar & grill. Then she will get to invite 15-20 friends over for a pool party. 5 pizzas, heroes, salad, soft drinks and cake will do it. I will still plan our cancelled party next year when she earns her M.S. She is ahead of her game. Just 6 more classes to go.. Enjoy!!!!!!
