Good ad/pop-up blocker, please

Suddenly so may ads are popping up that I can ahrdly load my eamil, and everything else is running very slowly. I have ADV virus protection and also have run all of the ADV gizmos that get rid of junk and speed up things.

Advice please.

I thought AdBlock Plus was the gold standard, no?

It's what I use. I never see ads.

I currently use firefox browswer and I use ublock origin on my computer. I use AdGuard on my iphone. I hope this helps!

Wales, are you talking about phone or PC?? On my PC, I use AdBlock Lite, which is the Pale Moon Browser offshoot of AdBlock Plus that's used on Firefox.

I think I got my first Ghostery in Win 7. It is free and pretty much takes care of itself.

That's what I use for Chrome browser on a laptop/PC.

I had no idea anyone used any browser other than Chrome.

I think I'm a Chrome snob. What do people find attractive about non-Chrome browsers?

I just feel like Google has too much of my data already. They don't need my browser info too.

I'm partial to Firefox. Works well, seems to have better privacy protection, is open sourced (meaning anyone can contribute to the code) and is run by a nonprofit organization (Mozilla).

And it's not coincidental that Middle Son works for Mozilla :-)

I have certainly found Chrome inadequate. First choice Firefox, second Microsoft Edge and Opera as well as a few others available because some applications allow only one account open at a time. For example, I have multiple Gmail accounts for various aspects of my life. At the moment I have open 3 Gmail accounts so have three browsers open--not a one of which is Chrome.

I was mostly an Internet Explorer user until around the 2010's. I felt Chrome was superior at some point and switched. Less buggy at the time and faster.

I like Chrome's - and Google broadly - "clean" look and feel. It's simplistic, yet powerful (lots of tools and options). I love Google search's totally blank white page. Their minimalistic and clean style for everything is something that fits my persona. I also like that Chrome has a built-in sandbox for browsing protection.

For productivity tools, I do prefer MS Office over G-Suite (by a lot actually). Have tried Edge, but still like Chrome more.

I don't mind Google's data collection on me. I turn off some of their tracking tools in my accounts. I trust Google way more than Facebook. Google has more information on us than FB, but does not fully utilize it in their ad business. FB's back-end is by far the most data-rich of any online advertising platform. They use everything they know about you to let advertisers target consumers more precisely. Google could, if they wanted to, blow them out of the water on this front, but they don't/haven't (yet) do it. That could change, of course.

I, too, am still running Win 7. I use the Pale Moon browser, which is an off-shoot of Firefox, and uses many, many less resources, which is a great help since I am using Win 7. For Pale Moon, the Ad Block Lite ad blocker works fine.....except in my Yahoo email. I have to "white list" that site to allow for ads, or else it goes to the very, very basic Yahoo email, which doesn't allow any sort of formatting for texts. But I have found out, surprisingly, that the Yahoo ads on my email page are not as overbearing as I feared. Other than that, the Ad Block Lite works great. You will find, with **ANY** ad blocker, that you will visit certain sites that will not allow you access unless you "whitelist" that page. You will have to decide whether or not you want to do that. 99% of the time, I find another way around the barn so that I keep my ad blocker on.

My desktop is a Mac so I use Safari there. My laptop is a chromebook so I use Chrome there. My phone is Android and I use Duck Duck Go on it.

if you are getting a lot of ads it could be a virus so either scan you cpu or delete you cookies or both...or you may have indicated that you want the sites to use "push notifications"... just google "{your browser} turn off push notifications"

i dont mind the ads i get paid regular through both crossmediapanel and surveysavvy for using the internet
