Get Upside

This is an app that offers cash back on gas purchases. You either check in or upload your receipt. The receipt can be either from the pump or from the store.

Your cash accumulates, and when you reach $15 you cash out via PayPal or request a check at $25. You also have gift card options.

I have been using the app since March, both for MS and personal purchases. I have accumulated $5 so far.

I forgot to mention that there is also a discount on groceries and restaurants. In my area, that program is not widely developed. You can request restaurants get added.

Quick Question: Does this work in addition to gas brand and/or other apps? Or, do you have to choose between brand apps and this one?

SEA, it works on it's own. I pull into a gas station for a shop. I open the app and it will tell me if the station participates. The yellow stations I shop are participants. I claim the offer. I have 4 hours to use it.

I check in and I am done. You can use your MS or brand apps at any time.

I signed up in March and used the app on my reimbursed shops. The credit card I used also gave 5% cash back.

How does it compare in economic benefit to GasBuddy?

I wasn't fond of GasBuddy.

First, the gas stations I shopped weren't in their program. That's a deal breaker for me. With GetUpside, all of my shopped gas stations are participants.

With GasBuddy, I had to link their card to my account so I could get gas rebates where I did my shopping. With GetUpside, I link my payment card (first 6 and last 4 numbers) in the app. I check in at the station, select the card that I will use and that's it. After the 4-day approval, the cash is in my account.

What's your referral code for GasBuddy? I may give then another look.

I forgot to use the app when I did a gas shop yesterday. I remembered as I was finishing the report at home. I found the location in the app map, tapped it and uploaded my receipt. It was approved within a few hours.

i was concerned because the bonus gas perks dont post they just say 10c off in your account but the extra 15c posted with everything else. thanks extra $1.50 and yes honny i used your code. only two stations around me though and with my tiny toyota it will take me probably 3 months to hit the cash out of $15. still better than the usually 10c off a gallon that i get by grabbing gift cards though

The stations that show up when you open the app are the three that are closest to you. You can scroll the map to check other stations.

This all sounds pretty good, but my phone is old, and it takes forever to open anything on it. Half the time, when I do the Timestamp picture that is required for some shops, it cannot find the address; it just shows the county that I am in instead of the address. So I have to be very careful if I want to ad another app to my phone.

Get Upside is offering 17% at certain grocery stores. It's Shoppers Food Warehouse in my area. It may be a different chain where you live.

GetUpside hasn't gotten any grocery shops in my area yet.

I downloaded them but never used. Today I got email about new places around Philly were added. Tried and removed: they asking for my credit card info. No way. And their gas prices even with the discount not compatible with the one I can get from gas station 1/2 mile away..

but still the price they offer not competitive. I can get cheaper gas. I got today free yearly membership as Sam's Club so I will buy gasoline over there.
