Remembering Queen Elizabeth

I always appreciated her because she chose a largely pre-determined path, followed it closely and simultaneously made what changes she could in the time available to her. I wish that everyone could have understood the slow wheels of change in such a system instead of criticizing. Alas. She and her husband will shine brightly as the winners in my heart. Best to the family and friends.

Lots of memories being shared. One of my favorites was the entrance she made to the opening ceremonies of the Olympics, with James Bond. That was just 10 years ago and she was 83. If you want a few giggles, look it up.
I may be among the few here who actually watched her coronation on television. Black and white, small screen TV. I was definitely awed. I have decided that I will also watch Charles' coronation as a remembrance .

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Hubby's family didn't have a TV, but he remembers, at school, singing God Save the King one day, and God Save the Queen the next day.
In school, we were given essays on what you think about The Royal Family. I had some mixed opinions and while one teacher just nodded and was hesitant to even submit it, the other one was happy that I was brave enough to write what I thought. My entry did win for my school. Nevertheless, an era has come to an end.
Some of the criticism deals with old, old history. These events occurred long before this Queen was born. Is she her ancestors? Are we ours? In some cases, hopefully not. I would bet that no one with this or other criticism of W family behavior can prove that their own ancestry is free of some sort of issue. But I digress..... knowing that my family was not sufficient to be Imperialistic but has had some horrendous characters and events....

So. In her era, this Queen loved people worldwide, was a strong force for stability, and undoubtedly spread more goodwill than bad around this big ol' world we all share.

Yup, the Royals don't sum up the Queen and vice versa. But as a whole bunch of them, they could've done better.

“Old, old history,” is like brushing aside US Segregation, Jim Crow, redlining, the War on Drugs and the countless other issues the US as “old, old history.”

I would bet that large majority of people do not have the privilege and/or power and influence her bloodline had to remediate the atrocities the British empire had put many nations through, even DURING her reign.

Shopping the Greater Denver Area, Colorado Springs and in-between in Colorado. 33 year old male and willing to travel!
I absolutely love that you mentioned specific issues! Thank you!

Just think of how many known, unknown, rich, poor, and other sorts of people have fought for centuries to correct problems within societies. All those people! All that time!

She, herself, could never restore (think of insurance policy) all the people who have experienced real or perceived harm. Who else has harmed the same people? Do they have such deep pockets? And, what about those harmed? If they harmed even one person, they should put down their stoning tools and think about how they can make others whole for all that generations of people have done.

Isn't it better to note what changes are in the direction of the general good, attempt to keep them, and keep plugging away at other changes that will make the world a safer place for everyone?

Here iare a few Elizbeth quotes we could think about now.....

"And when peace comes, remember it will be for us, the children of today, to make the world of tomorrow a better and happier place."

"When life seems hard, the courageous do not lie down and accept defeat; instead, they are all the more determined to struggle for a better future."
