Mint Mobile $200 for a year of service and a number change

4gb high speed per month. unlimited low speed after that. unlimited talk and text. one line.
$15 a month + taxes

i switched from att and they would not let a number transfer to go through. either on ATT end or Mints end. it was like pulling teeth to get ATT to unlock my cell phone so i got a used cell. there is a list online you can check and see if you phone is compatable with Mint. there is no customer service you can call easily. its all done on an app. i didnt want to wait so i didnt look to hard for a way to fix it. picked up a used Metro By Tmobile unlocked cellphone for $120 Samsung A12 5g. the switch was very easy just pop in the sim and enter the sim number on the app. I will be saving $1000 this year alone from this. worth the forced number change.

phone calls and texts are great. internet isnt so great in a lot of places. that may be the phones radio. A12 5g came out in Dec 2020 so its not all that recent. still worth $1000 savings.

I switched one of our Verizon phones to test it out.

It was like pulling teeth to get them to port the number over.

But honestly it was like a 30 min to 1 hour affair.

I kept mine on Verizon for mystery shopping and data entry.

Mint is pretty lame in rural areas.

Most of what people do though is connect to their home wifi anyway.

Does anyone have Pure Talk?

Thinking about switching my other phone and testing them out.

Hubby has Pure Talk, but he uses a flip phone, so that's not much help. The connection, though, is great for him. He has the minimum data at, I think, 500 MB/month...since it's a flip phone! Unlimited talk and text. He doesn't text, so the talk is fine. He signed up through AMAC, and since he's a veteran, he got a discount. His MONTHLY bill is just a tad UNDER $10/mo. For what he needs, he's a very happy camper with it.

I USED TO HAVE Mint, but dropped it because after the introductory plan was over ($45/3 months), it went up to $25/mo for 4 GB data ($75/3 mos). So I switched to Ultra Mobile at 2 GB data/month, and unlimited talk/text. I pay $48/3 months, plus taxes, so about $52/3 months. As you said, when I'm streaming at home on my phone, it's over my home wifi, so the 2 GB data/month is fine. I never use all my data either.
What is the phones radio?

I believe that CoolDude is referring to the signal which connects the phone to the cell tower. Radio is not really the correct term since a radio generally has only a receiver unless it is a CB radio or a ham radio transceiver. A transceiver has both a receiver and a transmitter. That is what a cell phone has and what it utilizes when connecting via the cell phone network.

I've had Mint mobile for about 2 yrs now with a $15/mo 4Gb plan paid one year in advance. Mint Mobile is an MVNO of T-Mobile. That means Mint operates independently but leases cell tower access from T-Mobile. This is why Mint can keep its prices so low but still get decent national coverage. I've noticed no difference in service. For reference, I am the "tech nerd" for some of my family, friends, and neighbors. I've built my own desktop computers, installed alarm / camera systems, and use a bidirectional scanner to communicate / diagnose repairs to our cars. I would never allow other people (technicians / mechanics) to work on my equipment.
i switched to mint last year to save on cell costs from at&t as well. i’m coming up on the end of my year and am looking for another provider. where i’m located, it seems the times i need the internet the most, it doesn’t work. i could have full bars and 5g showing, however my service would be deprioritized to where i could not check in at nor complete some assignments. of course the locations i needed the internet at did not have public wifi most of the time either. 99% of the time, mint works fine; calls, texts and internet are on par with the bigger networks. the 1% is where the frustrations come from and when i can’t complete the work im assigned, that’s a problem.
