Business Observations....is this for real?

This is a compnay that was mentioned by someone who says that they were offered a route of $30 video shops. I looked at the web site and applied, as a guinnea pig. Would others please do a search on the name and make an assessment of the site? It seems off that they asked nothing about video experience or whether or not the shopper had his/her own equipment.

I responded on the other thread. I too "applied" and about midnight got an e-mail with a PDF attachment which has not been opened. The e-mail also provided an overview of the mystery shopping process and said they would send equipment after their online certification was completed. There was a link to the online app, but I chose to type it in. The online app does ask if the shopper has their own equipment. I have not proceeded at this point because the application asks for both SSN and DL numbers as well as full names, addresses and phone number or e-mail of 3 references. I Googled the company and could not find much other than their website and a feedback request on V had nothing.

Apparently they only operate in the far west and southwest states. They do not appear to participate in the VSN (Video Shopping Network), but neither does EPMS, so that's not such a huge deal.

That much I was able to garner from their site. What puzzles me now is why I got a response and you did not. It makes me wonder if they have begun to move into the midwest.

Yes, I also noted that there has been no info on them in over a year since someone asked about them on the other forum. Not a good sign, as all of the really active video shoppers hang out over there.

They want to much information on their app for me to consider going forward with no other intel on the company.

$30.00??? Doesn't seem much for a video shop. I am just now feeling confident enough to start doing video shops and was assigned one, but still have no information on receiving the equipment or a completion date? Is this normal. It is with a MC that we all like and I have worked for all year and have had no problems.

thanks for your feedback!
I have my own rig so shipping has never been an issue. Maybe they are waiting until you have the equipment and have time to practice a bit before scheduling a due date.

Just an update. After receiving the original e-mail, which included the download and embedded link, I responded the next morning, 12/2 and asked a couple questions of the Shop Coordinator. I mentioned that I had done a bit of research on the company and wanted to be sure my information was up to date. It's been a week and I haven't received a response. Sounds suspicious to me.

I also did a quick Google search on the name provided in the e-mail and found a person with the same name as the President of a funeral home business in New Orleans. Business Observations is based in Arizona. Certainly not irrefutable proof, but her last name was very unusual.

I have seen this company now and again but I never signed up for them because I can not find much about them and their fees seems below market. Has anyone worked with them or known somebody that worked with them? How did it go?
I have done many (at least 15) video shops for them and they are very easy to work with. They respond quickly to my questions, and pay reliably.
I just signed on to do 7 shops for them. We will see. I'm not much help because this will be the first video shops I've done. I don't know what the going rate is...They are supplying me the equipment free of charge.
Fees vary even with video. In general an apartment shop will be a minimum of $50 and often more if you have your own equipment. Retail is in the $50 to $75 range and new cars go from $75 to $100. Anytime the MSC provides a loaner camera they normally don't charge you, but the standard would be receiving a lower fee than a shopper with their own equipment. The difference is usually only $10 or so and offsets the costs of shipping.

I took a video shop for them. The pay was $30 but I was doing it for the experience and also I was guaranteed a route to make my while so I signed up. The scheduler and editor have been fabulous. I'm still finishing up reports so I can't respond regarding payment yet. After this, I'm not doing any video shops under $50. smiling smiley
I worked with them a while back. From I remember they had a nice scheduler but the $27-$30 payment for video shops with reports is around 40% lower than the market rate.
