Have you worked for Regal Hospitality Group?

...and, what a surprise: the emails I sent asking about the "dock" in pay have gone un-answered.

ShopperGuru,

Out of curiousity, which email did you use for the company? Some of people tend to respond more than others. Recently I started receiving emails explaining errors in my report when there had been some. Not sure if that is something new, or I've just done enough with them now to where they felt the need to provide specific feedback. I've done a number of shops for them and I've always found them good to work with.
I just received a check for a breakfast shop I completed in Nov. Again my shop fee was $5 short of the amount listed on their website. On the check, it stated, "Bonus reduced due to incomplete sentences". Of course, they couldn't tell me which questions I had incomplete sentences because there were none. I've never received any feedback or complaints about the report until I got the check. They just seemed to always find an excuse to cut the shop fee one way or the other. That's 5 shops in a row that my shop fees were reduced and that's $30 stolen from me. When doing shops for them, don't expect that you will get paid in full every time.

Is the deduction of fee a new thing with them? I haven't shopped for them for a while, but never had this happen when I did.
I stopped working for them when the pay slowed down a few years back, but never received a deduction in the past.
Just got another payment where they again deducted HALF of the fee (which was supposed to be $75) because of "issues" they had never disclosed to me in the report.

Not only does that stink, but it's completely unprofessional to ding you for something when they never told you they would do it. I have decided I prefer working with companies that treat you like a valued team member rather that "just some interchangeable shopper."
That is terrible, did you call them and ask what is going on? Try writing or calling John Murphy or Shawn. That is not ok, I am sorry. I know that they take a while to pay but I have never seen any deductions.
Emails go unanswered. I've sent several but nothing.

It just reinforces how "valuable" we shoppers are. I prefer working with a group that considers me part of the team, rather than just a commodity.
I just completed my first shop for them and got an e-mail back saying your writing was excellent but because you had over three instances of using first person you will have a pay deduction. She stated it was obvious I tried not to do it but it was there.

I didn't realize you couldn't do that either. It is not in the shop instructions but I did just go to their webpage and act as if I was going to sign up for the first time and it does say you can't write in first person. They really should put those things on each shop if they are going to deduct for them. Most individuals will not remember that from when they signed up.

Anyway lesson learned. I did like where the shop was but I'm a little ticked that was not clearly stated on the shop directions.

Perhaps if you composed the emails in the third person, you could get a response. smiling smiley
I totally agree that third person writing requirement should be in capitols on the form. I vaguely remember reading that and hearing it before but considering pretty much all other shops require a narrative style form it would be hard to stay in third person or even to remember that was a requirement. They have some shops here that sit a long time and I have been thinking of but now I am thinking maybe not.

I am going to have to disagree with you, kathie28. It is in the guideline that you have to write in third person. I did a hotel and pulled up the guideline, here's what was stated: The first sentence was written in RED.

>>>>Write the reports in the third person narrative……….. Example: The guest approached
the front desk and was immediately greeted by Tony. The attendant politely asked how
he could assist and the guest explained that he was checking out of the hotel.<<<<<

Also, if you read the sample form's narrative, it is written in third person. I also received an email prior to the shop, and again it stated to write in third person.

If it is in the guidelines then the MSC did what they were supposed to do. It is up to the shopper to read and understand the guidelines. the question that I have is does it say in the guidelines that they will deduct pay from you if you fail to follow the guidelines. That should be clearly spelled out.
Issues resolved.

I'm still waiting for payment for a shop from early December. Anyone else waiting this long?
Does anyone have a way to contact them? I have been trying to get payment for a December 6 shop and they aren't returning my calls or emails. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I want to close the books for 2012.

@walesmaven - You are so right. I completed a hotel and I had everything done from the night before and all I had left at home was about an hour to write up breakfast, wake-up call, and front desk checkout.

I did not know that they do not reverse the hotel charges. So, I have to wait 90 days for hotel and cash I paid out for food/bev? Yikes! I did the shop 10 days ago and have not had any communication - do they take long to grade and feedback? Do they give feedback? The grade in the middle of the site doesn't help, because since it doesn't show the number of shops, it could be an old grade.

Paying on time and when deductions are taken advance warning is sent via email.

I just received my first shop for this MSC. I am glad that I came back to the forum to read this thread. I have been registered with this MSC for awhile and I don't remember anything about writing in the third person or deductions for non-A scores. My shop is not scheduled until mid-August so I will have plenty of time to prepare for this shop.

It seems like there is a wide variation of requirements on this MSC's hotel shops. My shop requires one overnight stay which can be charged to cc, one cash only dinner, two cash only gift shop transactions, and one cash only bar transaction. I don't see any breakfast requirements.

Wish me luck!

Just reading the guidelines for my first shop with this MSC. I do see where it says to write in the third person narrative. And I do see where it says, "You will be reimbursed for the expenses during the shop, plus a designated bonus if the report is complete, accurate and submitted within 24 hours of the shop." I don't see any specific money amounts or deduction percentages for non-A scores on shops.

It continues to say, "RHP has the right to deny the bonus and/or reimbursement of cash expenses, if the shopper does not follow the instructions and standards for the evaluation." That is kinda vague but maybe this is the deductions that they have applied to some of the previous posters.

I won't shop for Regal any more. I had performed several shops for them with no problem, but after my last run-of-the-mill dining shop, I, too, received a half-pay penalty for some mistaken bullsh!t about having uploaded the wrong receipt. I sent emails asking for clarification, and when those went unanswered, I called and spoke with a woman who passed me on to a supervisor's voicemail. My call was not returned.
Thanks to the information from this post I have taken them off of the list of companies I will work for.
Most of the hotels are reimbursed and it takes 90 + days. Of the ones I had done, only one was reversed, and I was told in advance that hotel would reverse.

My last 2 hotels for them were over 90 days to reimburse and it took a reminder before I was paid. The cash outlay required for the hotel shops is too great to have to wait that long and chase. If it were larger charges to my CC, I could potentially justify it for milage and hotel points, but there are simply better companies to work for.

There is also a particularly annoying component to their bar shops where you have to order a generic drink and cannot request premium brands. That sucks for me as a 'lifestyle' shopper because it's not the lifestyle I choose...

Last, there seems to be a pattern with MSCs that rack up bills for large reimbursements, start taking longer to pay and eventually go out of business. Too risky these days with Regal.
