no, it is not fair. but considering some MSCs would throw the whole thing out and try to make the shopper feel like a turd, HC is awesome. When I take shops that are not close to home I make sure I have a route. That way, if I have a situation where one of my targets is not available (or doesn't exist) I have enough shops to make the trip worth while.
HC pays very well (I have seen shops go as high as $75 but have never gotten more than $50 (mostly I get $35 to $40 for a 3 person shop)) and I always hold out for mileage. For the amount of work involved--about 30 minutes in the bank and 30 minutes filling out the form--I don't think it gets better than this in the realm of mystery shopping.
I would be holding on to this info for dear life, but I have done all the shops they offer within 100 miles of where I live.
