Post Office Shops

I think the only way these shops work to my advantage is when I actually have to ship something. I made additional cash on a book sale thanks to the competitor shop.

I do the DIM shops from time to time and have never had a problem. The cost for shipping can range from $35 to $40. The thing that is tricky with these shops is making sure the weight in the box is exactly right. Did you double check your weight? On these you don't get to choose where you send the package. It goes to a food bank they choose the location for you so I am wondering if this could be your problem. They disclose the address in an email to you.
On the brown truck shops I did one of these as a competitor shop. I held my breath on that one because when it was first assigned there was no weight limit. Luckily I printed out the guidelines because after I did the shop the next week they changed them and put a weight limit on them. However, it was not questioned, thank goodness because their shipping is high if you do the 3 day, which is required. The 3 day is higher than the ground and they do look at you funny when you request the 3 day. I just made the comment that it was for my grandson's birthday so I wanted it to arrive on a certain day and was willing to pay the difference.
I actually did that shop and didn't use the three day shipping because of the fact that the guy offered the overnight which was cheaper and the amount of money they wanted was well above the amount of reimbursement stated in the guidelines. I was not about to pay $20 out of my pocket for a $10 shop. I called my scheduler immediately after doing the shop and he told me how to write it up and the shop was accepted. I think they use the same requirements for the competitor shops as for the client shops and the client shop three day service is probably less than the overnight shop. I was shocked by how much more the three day service was.
I've not done a competitor shop, so have nothing to add. I've done a few DIM weight and have not had a problem. Just followed the guidelines. I like the Scenario 2 shops best, but do regular ship as well.
I agree with deb92641, scenario B is the easiest because you don't have to run out and buy a box and use your own tape. Timing is also easier, because I can discreetly jot down the time right when I finish addressing the envelope.

I prefer A because I hate trying to fit everything in the envelopes. I have been "helped" by a friendly, thoughtful clerk, who wanted to save me money by giving me a free box. YIKES. I keep a bunch of boxes on hand so I can do these. The wonderful people at Starbucks give me boxes that are the perfect size. i wish I could get it together enough to coordinate selling something on ebay and then shipping.
I have sold vintage items on Etsy and offered free shipping - as long as they are OK with waiting 7-10 business days for the ship. I can find a Scenario A ship in that time.

If the Etsy (or eBay, in your case) buyer doesn't want to wait - they can pay the normal rate. And maybe I can find a Scenario A ship that fast anyway!

Then I make $$$ - get paid to ship the vintage item I bought at an estate sale for $10 and sold for $50, offer free shipping, and then get paid to ship it.
I wish there were shops to shop the Mailman. Ugh. My guy is great some days and other days he is something to be desired. This is a part of the post office and really should be graded. It makes people not want their postman around.

Mine reminds me of the guy on that movie Funny Farm with Chevy Chase. I swear he rolls down the road and throws my mail (not really but somedays...I wonder!) Then there are other days he comes up to the door with my packages and has a huge bone for my dog. If my dog is put away he asks for me to get her out so he can give her the bone. The more packages I get, the more he hates me. I have a standard sized box, he crammed 4 packages in it the other day, ripping mail. One thing that got ripped was my pay check from non other than the Naked company. LOL!!!
I stopped doing these shops for the MSC after they rejected two of mine for no apparent reason; they were shopped exactly as the guidelines stated

When the original company had them, I NEVER had any problems with my reports or with being paid. They would usually call me crying and offering BIG bonuses for me to go to areas I would have never gone to had it not been for the bonus.
