KSS wanting refund? Anyone else get this?

Dear Shopper,

On Monday, July 30th, you received a payment for (sic) shops. The message said that the payment was for shops completed in June, 2012. This was a mistake. The shop you were paid for had been completed in May 2012 and had already been paid at the end of June.

We are requesting that you refund this 2nd payment for May 2012 shops that you received on Monday, June 30th, through your PayPal account. You can chose to refund the payment to xxxxxxx@xxxxxxx-xxx.com.

If you also completed a shop in June, you were paid for those shops on Tuesday, July 31st.

We appreciate your help with this. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Kathy Harper

First I sent an e-mail saying is this for real? Or is it spam? After being assured it was true, I refunded and sent this message:

Ok, I did it.

I want you to know I did NOT receive a first notice. * And I might add, you certainly wanted money back faster than the company pays us. I do appreciate your company and its regular payments, but this is strange, and not very professional.

have a good evening,

Carol

*(The email was practically screaming SECOND NOTICE!) Note that this is in 2 days, it being Aug 2,and the payment was made on the 31st of July.

I did not receive that email but I did not do a shop for Kinesis in May. Also, what does this have to do with KSS? I know KSS schedules for Kinesis but this looks like a Kinesis, not KSS, issue.

if you didn't refund the money within the space of a week, you would be receiving legal threats. a company tried this with me before. i told them to wait 30 days.

Sounds like they made a big mistake and were scrambling to get their money back. I saw nothing that said "second notice." Of course they want the money back quickly..the longer it stays in accounts, the more people will take it out and spend it. The email did not seem rude at all.

Not sure why you included the "sic." That is used to denote an error in something you quote. The sentence "On Monday, July 30th, you received a payment for shops." does not appear, to me, to contain an error. When I do shops, I receive payment for shops.

I don't know why you responded as you did. I am sure they were grateful that you were honest; others may not be.

I was overpaid by a company once. A bonus was included twice. I did not notice it before the company did. They sent out an email, and I checked the total. When I saw that a mistake had been made, I immediately sent back the money. I saw no point in being antagonistic in my email reply for what had been a simple case of human error.
Karen, in the heading it said second notice. I put (sic) in, not really knowing how to use that, because when I copied the e-mail, it included the client's name, and I used that to hide it. And I am not sure what you mean by saying you don't understand why I responded the way I did? Of course I wanted to be honest and refund it, which I did. But supposedly two messages in two days when they take so long to pay us, just got my goat a bit, that's all. Have a good weekend.

Carol, I understand your reaction much better now that I know the heading of the email said "second notice."
It's funny how some companies take 3 months to pay you... but if they are owed a refund by you....they want the money back in 3 hours...
Wow. I didn't even realize Kinesis was still around. I haven't seen anything for them in a while. If they keep double-paying and then demanding repayment maybe they won't be around long.

exactly. winking smiley
Would like to know what the legal issue is here. Are you obligated to pay back or not?
cynb: of course you have to pay back. That is like asking if a deposit randomly shows up in your bank account, can you take it out and spend it. You can, but you wont be breathing fresh air for long.

I had a demand like that once. I completed a shop and the payment was mailed to me for two shops instead of the one I had done. After waiting 60 days for payment, they noticed the double payment before my check arrived.

The requests for me to confirm that I would destroy the check started with a friendly request on Monday. By Wednesday, I received an e-mail that stated if they didn't hear from me by the end of the day that they would be canceling the check and I would owe the $25 check cancelation fee before they could reissue my check. By Friday, I was notified that I was banned for life because of my fradulent activities. I was geting a minimum of three e-mails a day. The shop plus reimbursement total was $13

There was never an attempt or thought of being fradulent. Hubby and I had gone away for a week to a friend's getaway in Northern Wisconsin. Though they have built a nice home that will eventually be hooked up to utilities as it is where they plan on retiring to at the moment it doesn't have running water or electricity, so of course no internet access either. In preparation for this week, I only did shops the week before that I had done dozens of times in the past with no issues and one shop where I informed the scheduler I wouldn't be able to be reached.

I finally get in touch with this person intent on demanding my pay and they informed me that there had been no action on any of the e-mails, they were just get trying to get my attention. They claimed I was an excellent go to shopper and that they would reissue the check if I would submit a picture of it torn up and I agree to continue shopping with them.

I agreed that I would keep them active. I did get the check two weeks later, but have never done another shop. If they honestly think I am a quality shopper and are willing to get that threatening over a $13 mistake on their end, I don't want to deal with them.

Did the email have "second notice" written on it anywhere? I didn't get the impression it was a second notice demand but that you took that viewpoint.

As much as I dislike the owner of KSS, this isn't a KSS issue. KSS doesn't make payments, the MSCs do. In this case, Kinesis.

Of course they're going to want the money back ASAP, especially if they've got bills out there and the money was to cover bills. If I accidentally made a duplicate payment on a bill, I'd want to get my refund back ASAP, too. It might seem unreasonable to some if they pay 60 days later, but the cost of overdraft fees is certainly something that could spur on a company to need that money back yesterday. Very few MSCs have tons of extra cash lying around for "Oops! I paid 200 shoppers twice by mistake" errors.
