GfK testing

Hello all,

I recently found my GfK account deactivated with a message that I would have to take a test in order to do shops for the company. The test is 16 questions, all having to do with mystery shopping (reports, objectivity, accuracy, etc.) You only get 3 tries, and I failed each time 100% accuracy in order to pass). I am mortified!

Should I call or email the scheduler and beg for another chance? Would it even be worth my time? The test doesn't even tell you what questions you miss.

I haven't done a shop for GfK for a while, and definitely not after they switched to SASSIE.

For those who have shopped for GfK both before and after the switch, will you please share your thoughts? Is this test required of all shoppers?

@dominofx I don't think you have to beg. However, I think it may be nice for you to email the scheduler and ask for another chance. Even if it turns out they don't have shops in your area that you want to do now, it's good to keep the door open. It may also give you some kind of closure if you can find out what the correct answers are and why.

Who knows? There may even be some glitches with this test, just like the SQM level 9 test turned out to have glitches.

Good luck.
yes. they had the same testing.. If you fail the second time, they tell you to call, before attempting the third.
It's not an assignment. It is a test that must be passed before you can even work with them.

Their tests are trickier than they need to be IMHO. I got thru the shopper test, but failed the specific shop test twice. Emailed the scheduler several times and he kept saying "read the guidelines carefully and try again". I so wanted to reply, Oh thanks so much. I did not think to read CAREFULLY> Gave up for now. JEEZ.
My scheduler told me to write down my answers so if I fail the third time to email them to her so she can let me know which ones I missed. She emailed me the correct answers and reset the test so I can pass it and use this new knowledge next time. I agree the tests are harder than they need to be. At least being told what you missed would be a better way to learn from your mistakes. Overall, GFK has been one of the more nit-pickier companies I've worked for; I only take assignments from them if I really need/want to.

Welcome to the forum, Keisha. To get started mystery shopping, start signing up with companies. The blue link at the bottom of the page, Official List of Mystery Shopping Companies, is a great list of legitimate mystery shopping companies. You will go to their each company's website, provide your personal information and your SS# and sign a confidentiality agreement. Some will want you to submit a writing sample and some may have some tests for you to take. After you are accepted as a mystery shopper, you will be able to search their job boards to look for jobs in your area to apply for.
I failed 3 times too, emailed the contact person, asked if there was a time limit before I could attempt it again, and basically was told that I was forever S.O.L. Keep getting shop requests from them, and emailed the person saying that I was not able to take the test to become a shopper for them, explained that it was my first test ever taken as a new mystery shopper (I was really just chasing those $150 mortgage info shops), and that after hundreds of completed shops later, I am more experienced, prepared, and knew I could pass the test. Never heard from him......
Amie - same thing here about 5 months ago... couldn't believe I failed it 3X! I wrote and they said I was SOL as well. Well, today a scheduler with initials of SC emailed me and told me he had 2 shops he needs me to do for him. Told me to take the test again and if I failed again, to let him know and he would help me out with passing the test. I really want to tell him to KMA, but I'm curious just how badly he NEEDS me to help him out! WooHoo, can't wait to see how this goes!

Good morning,

I wonder how many people do pass! Seems like I too took a test and failed twice. I think I will pass for now on GFK too.

I did not want to start a new thread.

I have not done a shop for GFK yet. I can see the tests, but where do you find the guidelines to study for the tests? Can someone point me in the write direction?

Each Month you have to re take the individual shop test.
All the answers are NOT in the guidelines.
Contrary to what they say.
Each month is not new questions. They just change the order of the questions.
There are at least two questions that are not addressed in the shop guidelines.
Shops are easy once passed.
You have to click the 'View/Submit' link, like you're going to enter your report. Scroll down, and the guidelines are linked there.

The test is easy ~ for the cell phone shops, anyway. Cell phone shops are the only ones I've done for GFK ~ I haven't even seen another kind available in my area. Anyway, for the cell phone tests, I could answer *most* of the questions from experience and intuition without even referencing the guidelines. There were a few that were very specific, and therefore would require reading the guidelines, though.

Have the guidelines open in one browser tab, and the test in another. When you come to a question you can't answer, do a quick search in the guidelines (control+F) for a key word/phrase from the question, which will take you to the appropriate paragraph(s) to read. Of course, read over the entire guidelines before actually doing the shop. smiling smiley

I have always been able to pass on the first try ~ again, on the cell phone shop tests. Oh, and there's only 10 or 12 questions.

Oh ~ and I just re-browsed the thread... I'd forgotten about the initial shopper test. I think I passed that on the 2nd try. For the specific cell phone shop tests, my scheduler also said she'd help me pass if need be.

I took the test and failed also. My very first time I was rejected from a company. I kept getting 1 answer wrong, but didn't know which one and kept reading the guidelines etc, but no luck. I can't be bothered now. Their loss I guess....
I actually love working for GFK! The pay is insanely quick. Do read the directions, the schedulers will help you pass the tests if needed. I have only done wing shops for them, so I don't know all the tests.
Anyone know on wings if Diet Coke is allowed instead of regular? On the Coke not Beer shops. Tried emailing scheduler. No answer. Also talking of coke confero is jumping back into the mix on the coke.
I just took the wing test, failed once. I don't know if this is new, but if you hit "start another pass through this test", instead of "Submit for grading..." It will tell you the questions you missed.
The tests are easy. Do a pass through the test before you submit for grade, and it will show the questions you missed. GFK seems to require a test on a monthly basis even if you performed the same type of shop the month before for them. I took the same test for a shop I did on March 30 - and then again for the two I did on April 1st and 2nd.
I took the test and failed 2x times. they emailed me the test questions and got it done. good to work with. Hate that test though dont ever do it the third time usless you ask for help.
The mortgage shop was the only one worth my time. Its just unreasonable to only pay someone $5 plus reimbursement if you are requiring a receipt upload and digital pictures in addition to the screening tests. You spend $5 on gas getting you to the restaurant. A free meal is just not worth an hour plus of work. In my opinion, MarketForce is much better to deal with. I also like EMPS but they don't have a lot of shops.
I see no point in being tested every month for the same shop. I just went through one of the testing/shops but I will not do it again. Once a year or every 6 months to be recertified - I can live with that. But not every month!
Do not be mortified, duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuub test! Apply for another job, take the test once and then call the scheduler, they will give you the answers!

I took the test and failed twice. Followed directions and called the scheduler for help. Left a voicemail. Called a few days later. Left another voicemail. This went on for about 2 months. Finally quit calling them. Kept getting emails about available jobs. About a year after first signing up, another scheduler emailed me about a specific job. I told him I had never passed the test and my account was evidently deactivated. He said to try again. I tried and failed....and started the cycle again. That was about 6 months ago. They can't say I didn't try.
