Is Kerns a waste of time?

My streak continues with this company. Don't think I've had a single shop from them in the 3+ years I've been a shopper. Today was a typical example, An e-mail from Kerns saying "please help" phone shops due on Saturday. They were representing a msc that I had never heard of called Kinesis which I had to scramble over to and register. Tonight I received a "closed shop" notice from Kerns that they had been assigned to another shopper.

I don't think that means its a waste of time - it just means that the particular email got more than one response and someone else got the shop. I don't do a lot for them right now (or so it would seem) but they also schedule off of some of the MSCs company boards (you just don't realize it) AND you never know when just the perfect shop for you (and for them to schedule for you) will turn up.

I don't understand. Did you not know what the shops paid when you applied?
I've no idea how many yrs. ago I completed my first shop through this scheduler, at least six, but I don't recall ever having any problems.
I have found that Kern is useless. I have applied for shops thru them and have thems how pending after I had completed them.
My advice is to deal directly with the MSC offering the shops...

Shopping Bama and parts of Georgia.
I'm still learning 24/7.
I have had no problems with Kerns. They schedule for msc from Maritz to Measured to smaller unknown companies. I got my shop for Harland Clark from them and they are one of my favorites to work for. To the op, Kinesis is a good company.

Yes I knew that the pay rate was $5 which is why I applied for 6 of them. They were phone shops and all had to be completed on Saturday. With a simple shop like that I figured I would make around $30 for a couple of hours work. When they are easy there's only a small initial learning curve and then you can bang them out. When they only offered one shop for $5 I figured I would still have the learning curve but would only make $5 so I declined the shop.
That actually makes sense to me and is often my reason for avoiding phone shops.

I always get Kern, KSS, and Kinesis mixed up. Anybody else?

Actually Kern and KSS are the same, Kern Scheduling Services.

I thought of creating this thread myself a couple weeks ago. Their shop board never seems to be current. I'd rather go to the source to see if the job is available. They (Kern) take forever, if at all, to let you know that you didn't get the shop. I was going to ask what's the point of even looking on their board.

Of course I've given up looking at jobslinger and the MSPA board for the same reason. They're never current.

I don't think KSS is a waste of time but I rarely look at KSS's job board anymore. I do look at most of the emails I get from them.

I miss some of the old KSS schedulers, especially the ones I knew I could trust and who knew they could trust me. It was also great that I could count on those schedulers having had considerable experience as shoppers.

I don't get that sense with the current schedulers at all. =(
I have recently had a rather unprofessional interaction with one of their schedulers. Well, perhaps it wasn't unprofessional, but it was dishonest and somewhat rude.
Recently some shops were posted with a large bonus. These are shops I would not do at the going rate, so I was happy to see the bonus. I applied for several and was accepted for some of them. Alas, when I logged on the the MSC site, there was no bonus.

I shot off an email to the scheduler asking about the bonus. In an email exchange was told unequivocally that there was no bonus and that the shops were posted without a bonus. I was then asked if I wanted the shops removed.

I replied saying that I would like to do the shops at the amount they were when I applied and sent a screen shot showing the amount. I received a reply that said that the shops were removed. No apology.

I realize that these may have been posted with a bonus in error. But why not just say that? I understand mistakes. The dishonesty, however, makes me very wary of the company and especially, of the scheduler with whom I had this exchange.

You are so right. A little "whoopsie" would have been nice after you provided proof they were originally posted with a bonus.

I've done some jobs for them recently and I have been really happy with their communication and the job.
I do have to say that I recently had a chance to communicate with a different KSS scheduler, Shelly. She replied quickly and was helpful. I guess it's a matter of which Kern scheduler rather than the company.

One was rude and unprofessional to me as well. I thought seriously about asking them not to contact me again at that point. I wonder if it was the same one.
Kern usually has the shops that got left over on shop boards that no one else wanted to take. I prefer dealing with the MSCs directly. I think I have done a couple of shops that were scheduled through Kern and they were a PITA... totally not worth it for small shop fees and some sort of "hero citation." Don't really care about being a hero. Being a hero isn't going to pay my bills.
They also do the original scheduling for some MSC's, though, so it isn't in my best interest to dismiss them entirely.
Made me look and yes that is different. Seems harder to quickly look through what is available.

Hmm. I kind of like the map but the list is horrible to try to read. I hope they're reading this!

They just sent an e-mail explaining how to close the map and expand the list. Also mentioned was looking into giving shoppers the option to forgo the map. I just scanned the e-mail, but they may have asked for feedback. Good a time as any to let them know some of the stuff you guys don't like while they may consider changing.

Kern has connected me wih some good mystery shopping companies. I've gotten some good bank shops through them. They were especially helpful when I first got started.
