Private Eyes Scheduling

I just received a weird email from Private Eyes. The subject says they need shoppers ASAP. The body is just the schedulers signature (twice) which includes a link to Shadow Shopper. Did anybody (everybody?) else get this?

I can't figure out if it is a mistake or spam.

No. I am no longer on there mailing list. There credibility is shot with me, after that Freeman fiasco.
I received the same email. Did you register with them?

I may have, but I don't think so. It is possible I signed up with them a year or two ago and don't remember. I don't remember getting any email from them before unless it was related to a shop for an MSC with which I am signed up.
I had to have myself removed from the mailing list twice so far. My e-mail gets removed and then she gets it from another company. Linking people to a paid site is nothing but spam.

That's what it seemed like, especially since there was a referrer number attached to the link.
Shoppers,
If an email was sent out with an error in the body of the message, we apologize. While we do have a Shadow Shopper link in our email signature with all other links we recommend to shoppers, we would never intentionally send just our signature to shoppers. If you have received such an email, please email it to me at Lysa@privateeyesonline.net, so it can be tracked and the resolved. From what I can tell from the above poster, it seems an empty email was sent out to some shoppers in error.
Thank you.
Lisa, Email me so I can check our database and confirm it's not there. However, when shoppers are in our client's databases, there is no way we can choose who gets emailed.

I have never signed up with Private Eyes and yet I got the following email today. I will not email back because that will only confirm mine is a valid/current shopper email address.

Of course mine had the signature links, including the Shadow Shopper one. I did not include them here because I did not want to share spam links. (I'm not saying you shouldn't.)

Lysa,

Do you think it's ethical to recommend a company in the signature of your emails that charges shoppers and apparently remunerates you for referrals?

When I was scheduling, I had to go to battle with Shadow Shoppers just to get them to stop reposting my shops from the MSPA site to their entire body of unqualified shoppers. That company is nothing but a scam that takes advantage of uneducated shoppers who are to lazy to do their own legwork, IMHO.
I received the full email with the link to sign up with NSS. I am already signed up with them and deleted the email.

Thank you, Bay.
Yes, it seems you were accidentally sent an email with no body. We certainly apologize for the incovenience. Since BusyBeeBuzzBuzzBuzz posted the correct email above, you may sign up with that client, or discard as you wish. It was a mistake on our part.

Steve,
I have had a Shadow Shopper link in my signatures since 2005. I personally like and use Shadow Shopper daily, as do most schedulers. Most schedulers will agree that it is a great resource for us, hence a resource for shoppers. They do offer a FREE membership. They are not a scam, and their service helps many shoppers find work. I also see nothing wrong with affiliate linkage in signatures. In fact, it is quite common. So, to answer your question, I do feel its ethical, and will keep my signature in tact. Many current shoppers (on this forum and elsewhere) have Shadow Shopper memberships, and I don't feel they are uneducated.

I've never been asked by any scheduler to use Shadow Shopper.

While defending your link to Shadow Shopper you overlooked the reference to your referral fee. Care to address that?

The question above was answered, and I have further explained the referral process below.

Steve asked:
> Do you think it's ethical to recommend a company
> in the signature of your emails that charges

> referrals?
I replied:

No one has "asked" anyone to do anything, unless by "ask" you mean it being in my signature. It has already been clarified that Bay received an empty email. Signing up with Shadow Shopper was NOT the purpose of the email Bay received. The link clearly looks like a referral link and I'm fairly sure that most know that a referral link is performance-based, which means we are credited with those that sign up. From forums, emails, facebook, search engines, and mystery shopping companies, etc., referrals are used daily by millions (including my clients and shoppers). With that said, we have been shoppers, schedulers, advocates, and referrers (with or without) being paid for it, with Shadow Shopper for ten years. I personally believe in their services and have no problem whatsoever helping shoppers, that company, and myself all benefit from that.
I have answered the original poster's questions, those of others, and now yours. I have no interest in satisfying your ongoing dedication to create problems, and in doing so now, I am going against suggestions to ignore you, however, I wanted to be sure I have answered all questions (which I have), and done so as quickly as I've been able (which I have).
If anyone has any questions or comments regarding Private Eyes, we will always be happy to respond to them, but if it's obvious that the questions are in attempt to influence, manipulate, or control a conversation, or the emotions of others, those efforts will be ignored by us, as is already done by myriad shoppers that see the difference between helpful posters versus posters in pursuit of creating unprovoked, or unrelated controversies.

Guess she doesn't see any problem disclosing a mystery shopper's last name on a public forum, either.
Interesting concept. Try to convince people of your high moral character and then do something totally unethical because I had the nerve to ask a question which, BTW, was not addressed.

Lysa,
How dare you disclose a shopper's surname on open forum. Have you no shame?

Personally, I have no problem with the inclusion of a referral link in a signature file. Capitalism and all that. Not offended, and I don't see an ethics problem with a referral link, either.

However, I audibly gasped when I noticed the inclusion of a shopper's last name. How out-of-line can you get? That goes against every rule of ethics and etiquette there is. Not to mention the tone that last email took towards the end. A rational, reasonable, articulate explanation goes a long way towards getting others to see your side. This response wasn't it. What an ass.

I am shocked that a company rep would get on a forum and use a shopper's surname. That's just wrong. Wow.
