Background Check, EIN & W-9 Requirement?

How much does it complicate your taxes when you have income under an EIN and a SS#?

It makes no difference on federal income taxes. I can't say about state or city.

Glad you're still able to work with them I don't do the health care shops anywhere. Need to get over that at some point.

Irony... after I sucked it up and took this MSC's dogs just to get self-assigning rights, my very first self-assigned inspection went about as horribly as anything can go. It was the most distant point on a long route, so I drove there in the dark and arrived just after sun-up. This meant that as it all fell apart nobody was at the MSC office to help.
The inspection required photos and detailed descriptions of any buildings at the address, with the job description and pay rate implying that there was probably only one building. If I discovered more I was to cover each additional building found.
There were 43 buildings.
At a D&A treatment facility.
Where you're not allowed to take pictures.
For a job that says you're not supposed to introduce yourself or make contact, just take the photos and only use the cover letter if you are approached.
I was approached.
By many people.
All moving very fast.
Coming at me from many directions.
Two hours later, after they had consulted with the state police, with the few photos I had taken before being rushed now deleted, and after I had left a half dozen messages for my still-not-at-work scheduler, they finally let me go, and I still needed to finish my 100+ mile route of 8 more shops.
Including two more sites for the exact same type of inspection for the same MSC.
They both took 15 minutes each.

OMG, what a fiasco. You are a better man than I am, Gunga Din!smiling smiley

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of your time and it really annoys the pig.
Wow. Just.... wow.

I pray it does not occur that the last thing I did before I died was vacuum the house or eat broccoli.
Having an EIN is no big deal. I've had a variety of businesses and types of self-employment over the years. One thing that I was surprised to find out is that, for a proprietorship (which is what you are unless you are a partnership or you get incorporated), your EIN is your EIN, just like your SS# is your SS#, meaning that you keep the same one throughout your life, even if your business name changes. I've had mine since I was a teenager, and I have had plenty of years when I didn't file a Schedule C for it, either because I didn't have any self-employment at all or because I had a small losses.

Right now, some of the companies that send me 1099s have my SS# and some have my EIN, but it's not an issue. The IRS knows who you are either way! :-)

That being said, I recently filled out my first ever physical W-9 form, which was for a MSC. It was a bit surreal to do one for myself, as I have to complete them for very large organizations at day job.
