WHAT? Hotel with age restrictions!

I just noticed a hotel shop with age restriction of 21-55. I wonder why? is 56 too old to stay in the hotel?
Seriously flawed!!!

But does that demographic make sense to you? From early 20s to 55, makes no sense to me. It encompasses the legal drinking ago, to middle age to over 50, but only up to 55. SIGH!

One company that sends me job listings has an age restriction of no one over 65. Guess they figure you can't see, hear, read or use the computer by then! One more year and I'm there. But my writing is by far better than what I see younger people doing. (Not on this site of course).
I wish I could find these hotel shops. I am registered with almost 100 companies. Coyle does high end ones. And I found the one that does ESA (not coyle, so no infraction here). But thats all I can find around here. Very frustrating.
usually the category is 18(or 21) to 49....extending it to 55 is unusual but perhaps trying to capture a certain business crowd

Four msc that shops 3 and 4 star hotels are by email invitation only. You can't apply and they don't list the hotel shop on the boards. I have to wait until they email me.

Cubbiecat, thanks for the heads up. Guess I will have to wait it out and see if they ever come up.

Whether it makes sense depends on the hotel.

If it's the Chateau Marmont or another "hip" hotel, then 55 may be too old. If it's a Mandarin Oriental hotel, early 20s may be too young and 55 may not be old enough.
The hotel jobs I've done only go up to 55 also. And they don't allow children. So, now I'm too old too.sad smiley
Not sure it has anything to do with it, but some hotels offer discounts specifically to those 55 and older. Since you have to show ID to register at most hotels, maybe they don't want the clerk to suggest/deal with the discount for whatever reason.
Here is an example of a hotel where you can receive a discount if you are 55 or older:

P.S. Now that I think about it, that can't be the reason, otherwise the age limit would have stopped at 54, not 55.
BusyBee...It's not a hip or upscale hotel. That's what I find so odd. It is one of those 3-star national chain that is geared to business travel, families and (gosh) folks over 55. Well, I am sad that I am too old to stay in a hotel, by their standard.

cubbiecat, I feel your pain. I'm already "too old" for some shops I want. Their standard is strange given their clientele.
It seems that corporate management in some cases has one perception of their "target market" while the reality is different. It all goes back to knowing your business.

This is just a perhaps but I do notice my 20 something kids with a smaller income than I have spend pretty freely when it comes to bar tabs and other comfort items that I just pack myself and bring along. The hotels that have also an older clientele might just want the feedback, even if it is "objective", from the younger people and expense account people who also tend to spend more lavishly than I do when at a hotel. If those groups can be upsold on the extras where the markup is big the hotel would want to do what it can to attract more of them.
It is a shame that we older folks do not seem to be valued in society for our input and wisdom. We are just not fashionable.
