It was funny until it wasn't: Team TopGun at Intellishop

I've enjoyed some of the creative headings and emails for Intellishop's car dealerships lately, especially when Team TopGun uses the names of the car models to be shopped in clever ways. However, when they used "Go For A Summer Cruise!" this morning, I thought they crossed the line. Too misleading. "Cruise" was not the name of the car model to be shopped.

Am I being too sensitive?

I've been shaking my head at "Team TopGun." Wasn't Top Gun about pilots?

their headline should just be "delete me"

I totally agree on that one- it should be delete instead of read me. They are so under priced and overworked shops.
I don't mind cutesy but the latest titles strike me as manipulation and deceit.

Considering they only pay $17 bucks for a car shop and another MSC paid me $75, I find it harder to do one for these folks....
That's all anyone in this area offers for new car shops - $17 or $18. Thanks -again- to this forum, I won't touch them for that price. There's a video shop I've applied for paying $75, but I don't have any equipment yet, so they haven't assigned it. "Team Top Gun" isn't getting my business any time soon.
Yes, schedulers get desperate and try to get shoppers to take shops. I do not think it is about manipulating or deceit. They are just trying to do their job, which is not anywhere near high paying and quite stressful. Remember schedulers do not set the parameters for payment, the MSCs do. All you need to do as a shopper is decline the offer or rather, not respond. Sometimes what I do is send a note to the scheduler indicating that they may pass it on to the MSC or client indicating that this is not really working for me as a shopper.
Great idea, cynb! If they know why we won't take them, they can report it "up the chain". Either that, or someone is willing to take them. For $17, the CLs can have the new car shops! I don't need the aggravation.
Just be careful to not annoy the poor scheduler. She/he has probably heard all about why a certain assignment is just sitting there unwanted on the job boards already. Don't burn bridges.

Lisa, while I never recommend anyone go through all that work for so little pay, I also would not recommend skipping straight to the video shopping if you have never completed the traditional version. Video has it's own unique challenges.

I second what LisaSTL said. Be comfortable doing traditional car [or home, or apartment] shops before jumping into video. Check out the article in issue 14 of Mystery Shopper Magazine about getting started in video: [www.mysteryshoppermagazine.com]

I still, once or twice a week, will wear my video rig doing a regular shop. It requires a lot of practice.

They have to "jazz it up" to get shoppers due to the fact they lowered the price from 20.00 to 17.00.....HEdoubleL,
I get 20.00 for the pretzel shop and refuse to do their dealerships since others pay from 30.00 to 65.00.....who are they kidding!! Reminds me of Cindy Laupers song "True Colors".
p.s. they never bonus here!

I did a lot of their car shops when I was just getting my feet wet the first couple of months. Now I won't do anymore because I realize I can do way easier, less detailed shops for the same abount of money. I think it's the new mystery shoppers that keep some of these client's shops floating. However, that also keeps the client from getting great reports back. I would need them to bump it up to $30 to start doing them again, and I don't see that happening.
I have completed 7 of their car shops this year but I was able to get a bonus on all of them. I will not do any of them at the base pay rate. I am sure the schedulers know why they sit on the boards and have to plead for shoppers to take them. Management does not want to raise the base pay because they want to pay shoppers as little as possible. The secret is to wait until they get desperate and then pick them up with a healthy bonus. I have seen some of the shops go for as much as $50 and I personally have done one for $45.00. The lowest pay that I have received this year for one of their car shops is $35.00.
I have been reluctant to apply for any of these shops, mostly based on what I've read here.

Do all/most of their car shops use the same form, and are the scenarios the same or similar? If so, it may be worth it for me to do some of these shops when they are bonused.
For the most part they are all the same. Occasionally, there are some small variations between the different car manufacturers. For example, for most of the cars they want you to initially browse the cars on the lot for up to 5 minutes to see if a salesperson greets you while for one specific manufacturer they want you to immediately go into the showroom. They might also add a few questions to the form that is unique for a specific manufacturer.
I haven't seen any here bonused at more than $20. Again, thanks to this forum, I won't take them. For $35, I'd think about it. For $60, bring it on! I've never seen this.
I've never seen them at $60 but I have seen them at $45 and $50 when they are real desperate.
Thanks to you guys, I have signed up for my first car shop and will be doing it soon. It's $60(!), but with a different MSC. I do need to let them value my trade in, and I'm a little nervous about high pressure sales, but for that much, I'm willing to try one... and I can even select a model that I am sincerely interested in.

BTW - a special thanks to James Bond 007.5 for all his help in answering my questions about this kind of shop. I think he could do a great presentation on car shops.
I think they stopped putting their names on the spam and made a generic addy because they are embarrassed to offer such low money. Still, I can't blame a business for putting it out there as long as there are people dumb enough to say yes. Hate the game, not the player.

up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B,A, start.
I haven't done any of their car dealership shops or emailed the team, so I don't know for sure. However, a more positive way of looking at Team TopGun may be schedulers are actually working as a team. Hasn't one frequent complaint been Intellishop schedulers not being responsive to email? Hopefully, multiple schedulers are responsible for Team TopGun and at least one of them responds promptly.
Top Gun rules of engagement are written for your safety and for that of your team. They are not flexible, nor am I. Either obey them or you are history. Is that clear?
I agree about not burning bridges. You never know when they will get an awesome new client and they will remember you smiling smiley

I try to take some of the so- so jobs every so often. It keeps me current and reliable, and those will come in handy when you want the ones that EVERYBODY wants. I just came back from 2 theme parks because I took a round of boring hum drum shops and emailed the scheduler nicely about the upcoming jobs, and BAM- they were in my inbox!

Insert eye roll. Between Team TopGun and hero citations, this company is groan-worthy.
