Trendsource

Hello,

I know this has come up before, but curious for current input. Has anyone completed the paid background check for MSI? Once you have that, is it difficult to get jobs or do they tend to have a lot consistently making it worth while?

I paid $8 for the background check about two months ago, and it has been well worth my while. They have a large number of jobs in my area, I can pretty much take as many as I can handle. There are many I turn away because I just don't have time. All mine have paid $17. They are pretty cut & dried, mainly Y&N questions and a series of pictures. I would advise to stay away from the large corporations (if you recognize the name), they can be difficult to deal with because some security policies make it hard to get the pictures, legal name is different than operating name, etc. But they are great to deal with and pay twice a month.

They have shops in my area, but haven't decided to sign up or not, due to the $8 background check and getting an EIN. I work full-time in a field that requires extensive background checks and have never paid for one in order to accept a job.
EIN takes 15 minutes or less online.

Trend source doesn't have access to your background checks. They need one so they are not sending a felon in to do an integrity check -- a felon might be bribed to lie for them.

If you want the work, pay the $8. It's the only way to get it.

I love Trendsource and I have done a few of their BV's but the one thing that kind of irritates me is that they will post a shop, you reply they tell you that they have assigned the shop to you but by the time you get to the page it's gone. Quite frustrating. I wish that when they assign a shop that they would at least hold it for an hour!

I'd say be sure you will be able to get enough of those to justify the cost and hassles. I have no appreciation for the games they played prior to allowing self-assign. I was told it would take five to ten of their real dog shops and self-assign would be mine. The only thing I could self-assign after those shops were completed were more of the dogs. It was not worth it for me to keep at it and this was before the added requirements. They still call me with things that are hard to fill and bonuses that are worthwhile.

Agreed. This one is I filed under Totally Not Worth It To Me ..... and, yes, for me too, I filed it there before the new requirements. And the new requirements sure didn't change my mind.
I have done hundreds of verifications over the years for Trendsource and the $8 yearly is well worth it. The reports are simple and the onsite visit is usually 10-15 minutes. Their reports are very simple most of the time and they don't limit how many you can do in a day. I have done the infamous grocery price checks for years and still do them to this day. The schedulers are helpful and you can't beat getting paid twice a month.
The BV are easy to do and the pay is ok. The only thing I have problem with is the narrow window of making the first call for appointment. I disagree with the shopper whom does not like large corporation. I'd rather take those over small businesses. I have done large supermarket head quarters, government agencies, hospitals and car dealerships. To each his/her own!

What were the old requirements you are talking about? I guess I only am familiar with the new. I had to complete 5 projects for them before they would let me self assign. I agree about the short time frame, that doesn't always work out well.

I had to do a large casino a while back and due to security, it was quite an ordeal getting the pictures. It drug out two weeks and I had to go back two more times before I finally got them, after going through a rigorous security procedure. Then Trendsource had a problem because the legal name was different than the DBA and I had to keep calling the guy back asking more questions. That's why I don't like the large companies anymore.
I'm trying to get one about 80 miles away. Asked for travel pay, which usually cuts me out of it. But they just don't have any of those business verifications in my town so I have to travel to them. Because of the hurry up nature, it doesn't give me time to try to book a route around them to reduce the need for travel pay.

Bottom line, I've applied for several but haven't gotten any yet. I suppose someday I should just suck it up and take one at a loss just to prove I'm reliable and competent. Maybe they don't want to gamble the PAD on an unknown.

That isn't how they work. The assignments are going to the lowest bidder. My first assignment with them was a BV and how that happened is beyond me since they normally get snapped up by those with self-assign status.

I have said this a zillion times, so once more won't hurt. Before EIN and background check, I got zip jobs, and never worked for them....after I did it "their" way, (which isn't all that difficult). I work alot for them, in my town (no driving more than 4 miles), they pay twice a month, which makes a lower fee worth it, quicker reimbursement, and they are now on my top 5......

Live consciously....
Then I'm going to add mine for the zillionth time, lol. It depends on where you are. For me the difference was insignificant and low paying jobs are never worthwhile even if you pay me within 5 minutes.

I think you have to do the Background check for the BVs and I LOVE them!! Super quick, the person you are visiting is usually happy to see you, Trendsource is not shy about paying incentives when needed, and there is no out of pocket cash as with some of their other shops!

Silver certified, I shop in Cities in NM and TX that no one has ever heard of.
I registered recently with them and I was accepted, but I did not see anything about paying for a background check. Hmmm...and if I missed it, how does one pay them? Do they take it out of your first shop? (I haven't had any shops yet)
My biggest issue is the BV's: You are given "4 hours notice" to contact the target and you must schedule the meeting within a few days.

That does not work for me, as my calendar gets jammed up for weeks....

But TS gets high marks for VERY fast pay. (2 days a few times) smiling smiley

You only have to do background checks for the BV's and you have to pay it up front.
Sunny -
They are definitely strict with the 4-hour rule, but scheduling the meeting is often more flexible, particularly if you let your scheduler know that you can only do it during certain days. I've had the scheduled date stretch out over a week from receiving the assignment, particularly when it needs to be done when the primary contact is available.
The killer-aspect of the four hour rule is that you have to complete the quiz before you can call the contact, and too often I'm agreeing to the assignment over the phone with the scheduler while away from a computer and needing to get other work done before I can read the material and take the test.
You only have to take the quiz to get certified once a year but there are several companies that TS does bvs for so that requires testing for each. In most cases the tests are pretty much alike with minor differences. I try as soon as I get a bv assigned to immediately make the call. Whether anyone answers or not, I've met the 4 hr. deadline. After talking to the contact I've had dates scheduled two weeks out because the contact is going on vacation, out of town on business, etc. As long as the contact is making that appt. out further than the couple days TS wants you to do them, it is acceptable to TS.
How do you complete the BV in 10-15 min? I have rarely finished in less than 25-30 (except for the outdoor picture ones that pay $15).

I paid for the background check.... signed for a job about 1 am... and the harassment began four hours later because I wasn't submitting the information in a timely manner.... lesson learned. Do no sign for these types of shops at night, sign for them after 8 am when you can get something done.

I didn't complete the first shop because I couldn't meet the four hour deadline. After that, I asked to be removed from that part of their program. How silly to harass someone who signs for a shop @ 1 am, to begin sending harassing emails before daylight.

I know it mostly automated stuff, but there are so few verifications in this area, it isn't worth it.

Trend Source has low-paying jobs, but they pay quickly-twice a month, which is the only reason I shop with them. The quick turnaround is nice for filler jobs.
You can always call and leave a voicemail (even if it is 2 am). You do not have to speak to the contact within 4 hours, you must attempt contact within 4 hours. After three attempts, the company tries to make contact. Many times, contact is never made and you are paid 2/3 of the shop fee.

You aren't paid 2/3 of the shop if it doesn't happen, they pay you $3. At least not in this area, it happened to me last week.
If the shop is canceled I get paid $3.

I just find it easy to call in that 4 hr. timeframe - if I have time to log in and take the job, it only takes 5 min. to call the contact. If I reach them fine, if not I leave a msg.
