NSS back again

I got this email from National Shopping Service:

Hello MY NAME,
This is Megan with the National Shopping Service. I am emailing you because have a CLIENT NAME - JEWELRY shop in your area. You would be evaluating customer service will want to get a business card. It is required that you have a partner to go with you. There is no purchase required for this shop. The shop pays $15 and there is a $9 bonus for a total pay of $24. If you would like to give it a try please give me a call at 1-800-800-2704 ext 233, or send an email for more details. I am looking to have it scheduled by Saturday.
Thank you,
Megan

I worked for Secret Shopper Service and did a job for the same client. Never got paid. That MSC is now dead as far as I know. I am wondering if this is a come back under different name. I had already posted about this scheduling company and it seemed no one heard of them. I have read a recent post about them not paying, or paying very late, in this forum. I am not going to take jobs from them, just wanted to give you a heads up.

I see that on their board. I think most of us avoid non payment ones just in case they have not changed.
italiano, NSS is not a scheduling company, it is a mystery shopping company. Their e-mails say "Scheduling Services" on them but the schedulers, like Megan, are in-house schedulers, employees of National Shopping Service. This is not my favorite by a long shot and they are not a MSC that I would specifically recommend, but NSS is a legitimate company and they do pay. NSS is in no way associated with Secret Shopper Service. I have worked for them and I probably would consider working with them again if I saw something I was interested in doing posted on their job board. Some of our forum members like them quite a bit.
Thank you Austin Mom. I apologize for my suspects. I did not mean to cast shadows on a legit company. Thank you for correcting me.
it's fine Italiano.....very close name and I would appreciate knowing if it WAS a non payer......

I have completed 11 shops for NSS and have always gotten paid. I know they had some payment issues earlier this year but that seems to have been resolved. They are a legitimate company. I like them a lot. I only do one type of shop for them when it is bonused but have found them very easy to work with. I would highly recommend them.
They had a small problem, which I had about getting a check cashed, but I gather it is now resolved. I took a few shops this months, and did one today. I got paid, and it seems they are on track..I wouldn't hesitate, we all run into problems in this economy.

I have shopped for this msc for over 7 years - never had a payment issue. They have been more than fair with a recent issue. They paid me $20, even after I told them I was going to forfeit my pay.

I wanted to say, the owner and schedulers are the best. They have added a couple new schedulers, who are emailing now,
before everything was done by phone. I as well, have been with them 6 years and appreciate they do not have a rating system.

I like them too and have never had a problem except last week when the scheduler for the jobs I do quit (I get the impression they knew he was quitting to move on to bigger and better things and it was not that he got fired or got mad at them for something). It happened his last day was friday and I sent him 2 emails about 10 minutes apart, the second an update on my schedule. The second one must have arrived after he left the company and I got scheduled for a time I could not do. They have been working with me on that. They are very nice and have always paid on time.
I have seen the jewelry store shop for months now but it is not something I am interested in...dragging my husband over to pretend he is buying me jewelry is not worth it. If I forced him to do that he would probably be buying me a divorce ring instead of a wedding ring!!! lol
I've read several reviews on Ripoff Review that are too similar to my situation - I did 3 pizza shops in 6 days, figuring I was helping out the scheduler. I took pictures with my new 5MB smartphone on all of them. One was rejected because the pictures were fuzzy. Not possible. Another was rejected because they changed the criteria after I ordered the piazza and did the online entry. Perhaps they should take a course in basic contracts. I'll the the BBB and FTC sort it out.

Moderator note: edited to remove client name. Please remember not to name clients when the MSC has already been named, as they were in the thread subject line. Thanks!
I can't comment as to whether they pay or not but I accepted one of their perfume shops and the number of questions in the report was ridiculous compared to the measly $15 they wanted to pay. A lot of "make sure you write atleast 250 characters" narratives derived from questions that can be answered in two sentences. Just a warning to those who value their time.. So far in my area, those have been the only type of shops available.

National Shopping Service is a good company and they always pay as they say. They pay by check.
I'd take a jewelry shop for $24 because I love jewelry (lol!), and my husband would be happy to go along with me.... Problem would be not buying anything. I will have to register with this company!

I learn something new every day, but not everyday!
I've learned to never trust spell-check or my phone's auto-fill feature.
I wish there were jewelry shops by this MSC here.. then maybe it would be worth it. A woman doesn't need a lot of perfume, haha..

I talked to them about the new posts of NEW PICTURES EASIER..... the scheduler admitted it has not changed. I said no thanks. She kept saying oh pictures are accepted no problem. Ummmm no thanks. I do not work for free.
NSS is one of the first companies I registered when I first started shopping. I have always considered NSS in a favorable manner. The one time I had a payment issue with them I was paid a bonus, on top of the fee,for the inconvenience.

After hearing so many bad things about their pizzas shops, I decided to sign up with NSS and take on an assignment as sort of a personal challenge. I did the shop last night. The pictures took me a while because I wanted to get the best ones that I could get. I am definitely worried they'll be rejected still, based on the feedback I've read on the forum. My daughter sat with me while I was taking the pictures and asked me why we couldn't eat it yet.

I've heard people saying that they're not worth it because by the time you get through with the pictures, the pizza is cold and destroyed. Luckily this didn't happen last night. By the the time I was ready to flip over the two slices for the "cut" view, the toppings had cooled off enough that they didn't slide off or stick to the box.

Hopefully I won't soon be creating a new thread entitled "Well, that was a huge mistake."
I have done plenty of these shops for NSS and I have yet to get one rejected. At first they looked complicated, but once you get the hang of them it's pretty easy. Once the pizza arrives I can do the pictures that require an intact pizza in about 3 minutes (there is another required shot that does not) and frequently have the issue of still having to wait for the pizza to cool off some more.
I love NSS. Awesome schedulers, awesome shops and they rock! Always pay the same time by check.
National Shopping Service is a top notch company. As others have mentioned, they have awesome schedulers many who have been there many years. You can always get a live person during their business hours. There was a pay problem a few months back due to a bank error. It was quickly resolved. The pizza shops having some rejection is due to a picky client who had used many different msc's. They pay on a regular basis and there is a link where you can check pay and shops. I overall have overwhelmingly great things to say about NSS. I would recommend them to anyone. I should know about them. I have worked with them since 2007 and have completed over a 1000 shop reports for them. The reports are straightforward, pay usually fair and if you request a bonus they will usually grant it. I hope that helps.
They always pay and are fair. They had a problem a few months back, but it quickly got resolved and they are on top again.
They are an MSC in business for years (I work for them 6 years now), and are not a scheduling company. My area they have upscale retail and many pizza shops, I do not do the pizza, just the retail. "Nat'l Shopping Service".

Live consciously....
I've done quite a few shops for them and there hasn't been any issues until I got my recent check and a shop was missing. They take a while to pay, so this shop was from August. The client rejected it, and I never received any notice about any issue with the shop. I called and emailed about it, and there was no response. Ironically, a scheduler called me about that jewelry shop and a few others. He's the one who looked up the issue, apologized, then offered a bonus to make up for the loss on that shop. The client - a certain mattress store - is no longer a client. Although I appreciate the bonus to make up the loss, communication does need to be improved with this MSC.
They are one of the best at communication. And they are available with live person during business hours. Hard to beat.
I love NSS. The main client that I work with is the mattress store so if they lost that it sucks for me. Their communication is terrible. If they have a question about a report they do not contact the shopper via email like most MSCs. They put it on hold and only when the shopper checks the website will he/she know about it. That is my only complaint about them.
While I tend not to do their shops because the ones in my area are mostly reimbursement-only, they've always paid me quickly. I wish some other MSCs (<cough> Cirrus Marketing and Troy Dolan <cough>winking smiley would pay as quickly (or at all!).
The trick to the pizza shops is to have a "old fashioned" digital camera that clearly shows the settings.
I also have a "background" for one shot. It's a 59 cent black posterboard that I have the kids hold up behind the pizza, which then keeps out all other objects in my kitchen out of the photo. I can knock out the 6 photos in about 2 minutes.

Just be glad that you aren't slicing the pieces with a razor blade and flipping them in ackward positions. I hated that.

NSS will always pay for a correctly completed job. One of their clients went out of business in the early 2000's. They did not get paid, but they paid their shoppers anyway.
Like the black poster board idea. Excellent idea.
