Hello, Dianne, and welcome to the forum. Because of forum posting rules and contracts we sign with mystery shopping companies, we can't answer your question. To find the types of shops you want you will need to sign up with lots of companies. There is a good list at the bottom of this page. If you are just getting started, I suggest you sign up with some of the companies that have work nationally and that would include Market Force, Corporate Research, Bestmark, Bare, and Maritz. Corporate Research will start all their jobs at a low fee but the fee will increase throughout the month until someone picks up the job. You will find that what is available in each area will vary, and that jobs will move from company to company as time progresses and new contracts are made.

In my area Market force has one grocery shop, In Touch has one grocery shop, Consumer Connection has one grocery shop and spotcheckservices has one.
Consumer Connection has a theatre shop. Apparently Market Force's other portal has theatre shops as well but I have no experience with that.
I am in Alberta, so this information may be completely irrelevant to you. I am guessing that if you are not seeing grocery shops, you need to sign up with more companies.
Actually we can answer this question as it relates to categories and not specifics.

For grocery stores I have done shops for
MSI - Trendsource
Market Force
ICCDS
Intouch
and I am sure others that are not coming to mind now

For theatres I see a lot of what they call auditing or checking work but some I have done where I covertly shop the theatre include
ICCDS
A-Closer-Look
Service Sleuth

As mentioned before though the thing to do is just to sign up with a zillion or two zillion companies as the categories and specific shops they have change regularly.

Traveliz, of course you are right. I answered as if this were a specific inquiry instead of a general category inquiry. My mistake.

No problem - this is a difficult concept sometimes for the beginning shopper and even some shoppers who have shopped a long time but don't have a support group of friends who are shoppers. At any rate I think it's best to answer the question as asked and clarify to the poster for their future infomation rather than give a blanket we can't answer that when we can.

One of the things we talked about at the convention is being helpful to new shoppers and honestly I see no problem in helping with categories, etc but AGAIN the best tip was your tip of applying for each and every company and then some...Even after 14 years I am finding companies new to me all the time.

If we told you the names of clients and their specific stores/+msc's, we would have to shoot yousmiling smiley

And then ourselves, for violating the contract.

I don't see anything in the ICA that says shooting someone would be a breach of contract.

I don't do grocery stores so can't help you. But I have done theatres in Toronto for CFA, Service Excellence and Consumer Connection.
Thanks Sojo!

I have a list of over 500 companies (including many that have gone under, merged, changed names, etc.) but I did not have that one.

For Verites, see: www.tnsmi-tes.com

They do trailer checks, but very, very few theater evaluations.

Checkerpatrol.com does theater evaluations for a tiny chain.
Hello my name is James and all of this is new to me. A friend of my moms told us about work as a movie trailer checker. Can anyone explain to me what this means?
Hello my name is James. I'm looking for work and a friend of my moms was telling to investigate movie trailer jobs. How and what do I need to do to get started?
It most likely means that you'll go to the theater, show a letter of authorization to the manager, and go in and watch the trailers to a given movie, making notes on what they were, if they were properly labeled with a rating, and what, if any, the audience reaction was. The ones that I've seen available then have you leave the theater, making sure not to watch the movie itself, and come back after the movie to catch the people leaving, and ask them survey questions.

You might get a better answer from your mom's friend.
I've done these and it was exactly as described by Ishmael. You do not get to see the movie with one particular MSC. I also had to do a head count. The theater was not showing the correct trailers, and there was no place on the report to enter to enter this data. Just a list of trailers. It was a late Saturday night showing and had to be entered by midnight. No one to call or email to explain the situation. Guess who didn't get paid? Guess who has never since, and, never will do work for that particular company ever again?
From experience I recommend you check out the grocery stores that Trend Source has, because, they have different standards according to district. Los Angeles paid well, and were easy, here in the Sausalito area and Marin County they pay nearly nothing and the work is double, so check it out before signing up.
