Like many companies they are trying to pay as little as possible for the work. As long as shoppers continue to take them they have no incentive to raise the fee.
If this is for the brand I think it is, they've had the shop up for two weekends at my local store, and nobody has taken it, and they haven't bonused it. I'm sure not taking it for $10....

I went looking for the ten dollar shop and I would not take that either but I stumbled on shops that pay 6.65! and it doesn't appear (at least from the brief description) that you would be getting some cool reimbursed item along with it.

I have to agree with stones' comments. I saw the $10 shop for the supersized flat screen with a three hour turn around. Not for me. But then again, I don't think I've seen much over $10 pay on Bare's site for a while now.
I have had a few shops (not this shop) for Bare bonused.As it gets closer to the drop dead date for the client they will have to provide a bonus if nobody takes it.
She they make electronics and cell phones the company that is being shopped. Then they want a picture of the window which would give you dead away as a shopper trying to take this picture
I don't work for them anymore. I used to do a lot of post office shops for them and know them by hard, but they got some new reviewer that got too finicky that frustrates me. Their scheduler was not any better either. They got tough with me even though I have been averaging 9's and 8's and many 10's.
I have never done the PO shops for them but have done some bank shops when they bonus them. Never had any type of problem. Just curious: what do you mean by "they got tough with me?"
I'd like to do more work for them, as they pay on time and some of the shops I've done have been enjoyable. But I can't work for what they're offering as pay, not when I can get shops with other MSC's that are the same amount of work for more money.

I did a $10 retail shop for BARE. The editor nitpicked a minor point in my report but I got paid anyway. It seems like editors justify their existences by finding flaws that are not really there. They think that if they just keep passing reports through, the MSCs would realize that many of us do not need to have our reports edited. Other editors seem to be like radar cops who have quotas for the number of infractions that they must bust in order to get paid.
Do any of their shops pay more than $10? Just reading the guidelines should be an indication that it's not worth $10. Somebody is taking the shops in my area, so they'll never get bonused.
I think it is just one editor that it is causing all of the issues. I had never had a problem with their editing department until recently.

The editing manager was professional and nice about the ordeal. I was really impressed with how she handled it. She apologized and explained that the editor was a college professor, so most likely their reports were being graded that way.
The scheduling manager realized that was unrealistic and contacted the editor. Hopefully, that editor will tone it down before she alienates good shoppers.

Yeah, I feel insulted when I see these $6.65 and $10 in-store shops.
Their name reflects their shop fees, as in "minimum"!

Came back to add - I remember some years ago hearing about a supermodel who refused to get out of bed for less than $10,000 - I'm no supermodel here lol but honestly, I don't think it's unreasonable to get out of bed for less than $10.....

Maybe there are 1000 locations, but they only need 200 shops? Enough people took them at $10. We all saw the CORI gas stations go at $4. Somebody does them. Not me.
Throw it at the wall and see what sticks? For some people, $10 shops are their bread and butter. I don't begrudge people for doing a pile of $10 shops that require no outlay of cash. It's a different group of people than the ones doing the $200 fine dining dinners. I don't understand doing the $4 gas stations though. For somebody living paycheck to paycheck, 3-4 $10 shops done in a day with no outlay of cash is very helpful at the end of the month. Some people have time, but not the money. Those shops are for them. Personally, these shops are never good for me. I spent too long on them and get cranky when it comes time to enter the reports. I don't do them. I might do them for $25 or more, but they'll never get that high in my area. I accept it and move on.

The local shop here apparently got taken, but there are still four of those "L"ow-paying technology shops still on the board within a 35-mile radius of me. I'm happy to see that these didn't get grabbed up. Maybe next round they'll up the pay to something more realistic? Or, maybe not....
Honestly, I just can't imagine them getting a quality piece of work for $10, for what they require on this shop.

If I can make $12 for a phone shop at home, then why would I want to take the time to get dressed and drive somewhere in 25 degree weather to make $10? After the cost of paper and ink to print paperwork and money spent on gas to and from, then time spent conducting and inputting the shop, it is pitiful payment. I will do 3-4 post offices for $10 that are within 15 miles of each other (with other shops inbetween to comply with the 35 minute rule), but a lonely $10 shop isn't going to get me out of the house.
The picky editors, not just for BARE, but for other MSCs as well, are usually based in Europe and are used to shoppers who slave to death for minimum wage or less, and write English language essays.
I have done over 600 shops for Bare. True, the fees are low but the schedulers are the finest in the business and you can actually converse with them in an intelligent manner. I have given them every opportunity to s----- me and they have always been fair. I did have an issue with a new editor and when I discussed it with my scheduler, it was resolved in my favor quickly. The trick is to make a route of their shops and calculate the times to fall within that 35 min rule (absurd rule by the way) and do your work. The fees add up quickly.
Those 35-minute rule shops are easy and among my favorites, even with the low pay. Although, I do live in an area with several more-rural locations nearby that often get better pay!

I have made myself a promise that unless I really want to perform the shop, I am not even looking if it does not pay at least $15. Let someone else work for slave wages...
What companies would you suggest people use? Which ones have better fees (generally) than others? How do you find them?
I have been a mystery shopper for 12 years. I used to do Bare shops. I do not do any shop for any company for $10.00. It is not worth the $10.00 to get that poor amount of money. Just the gas alone does not cover these shops. I do not understand why other mystery shoppers do these shops for next to nothing? Are you really that desperate? and you have to deal with these editors? No I, no more.
