Service check reviewers

I recently added Service Check to my MSC list and did my first shop for them. This is my first experience with this company. I did a weekend shop and submitted on time with a lengthy narrative. I've now gotten the shop kicked back to me twice by reviewer for corrections. The corrections that are being sent back to me are not typos or errors, but request for me to state things over and over again in my narrative. Not sure how many sentences I can spend on "he did not ask for my contact information at any time during the presentation." I went back twice and added MORE narrative. Is this a difficult company to work for? I don't see much current information here on the boards about them. Any info is appreciated. THANKS!

I haven't found Service Check difficult to work with at all, although I only do a couple of shops for them a year, since their shops seem to be mainly "high narrative" types, like furniture.

For me to do a furniture shop, the stars have to be aligned just right, my moon must be in Mercury and it needs to be raining dollar bills. smiling smiley

OK, I'll stick them on my "stay away" list! I would not be surprised if in the end it gets rejected.
No, no, no, I did not mean that. I meant they were a completely reasonable company, but I am just not attracted to their selection of shops.....except sometimes.

Brutal! tongue sticking out smiley

I mean brutal!!.....My first "newbie" furniture shop, they threw it back at me. I had to correct it....after that, I hardly ever got corrections on any companies...but THEY stood out.... so I made sure to dot my i's and cross my t's..smiling smiley
I think this is the company for whom I do grocery warehouse shops. They're always just fine, in my experience. Although, this is the only shop they have in my area, and I'm only eligible every 60 days per location, and there's only one location in town and occasionally an out-of-town location I do.

The only odd thing {knock on wood} is that on my last grocery warehouse shop, and these do have one extensive narrative block, the editor commented that in the future, be sure to break up my narrative into paragraphs. She even told me how: hit enter twice after a paragraph. She said to not submit my narrative in one big solid piece next time.

o.0

Of *course* I hit enter twice after every paragraph! I always do! I don't even like to have overly-long paragraphs, as they seem more difficult, visually, to read. I think their system must removed formatting or something.

She still gave me a 9, though.

Practitioner of the Nerdly Arts.
I've done their furniture shops a few times and I agree there may be a formatting problem, since I was told the same thing about not submitting a "block of text," even after entering twice between paragraphs.

Their reports seem to require the same thing over and over if you check a "no" answer: "She did not ask for my name," then, "At no time did the associate ask for my name," and again, "During our interaction, the associate at no time asked for my name."

For this reason, I wait until the shop is has a bonus to double the shop fee before taking it. The shop is simple, but the report is a repetitive PITA.
Thanks all...shortly after my second submission of saying the same thing over and over, I got back a great review from them. WTH? I think I'll just wait to see if they have anything incredible here. I saw the grocery warehouse place on the list here and was just wanting that one since I shop there anyway, but did not get that...don't think I'll pursue the next time it comes up.
Sounds like on their program, regular returns may not show up at all. I don't know if this will work, but you could try holding SHIFT + ENTER twice. It might do the trick.
I have no issues with the MSC as I've performed a small handful of shops with them; however, they are unusually different in terms of the kind of narratives they expect to be in their reports. In other words, I was told that ALL questions, regardless of whether they were marked "yes" or "no," needed to be addressed in the narratives. From my experiences with other MSC's, I've usually spoke on a high level with the answers I marked "yes" to and just detailed on questions I answered "no" to.

Their forms can be quite extensive, but their schedulers are some of the nicest that I have ever come in contact with. They give you more time than the usual 12 hours to complete the report which is great for me because I can edit with a fresh eye. I don't work for them as much anymore because I haven't seen anything that fits my schedule but I love the company.

I do shops for them, but not the furniture ones. Never seen one on the job board. They pay a little slow, but they are are easy to work with.
I have worked with them for a long time, but not on the shops you mention. I have found that the response depends upon the editor. I will get good responses for a long time, then all of a sudden a strange request. Otherwise, I really appreciate getting to do assignments for them.
Why does anyone work with a MSC if they only pay 60 days after a approval? And in addition they are picky! I just want to know!

I can't answer for everyone, but for myself, I work for Service Check because they are really nice folks and they have a couple of clients I really like. They do have a long pay cycle, and they are usually the last MSC to pay me for the month. I almost always close out my payments for that month when I get theirs. Their editors are a little pickier than some, but I haven't found them difficult to work with.

I agree, they have some of the nicest schedulers that I have ever dealt with, they are polite but they want what they want, what employer doesn't have that same requirement? And after shopping with them I am able to make a more thorough report for other MSC's which makes me a better shopper. Oh, and even though they are picky, they are not afraid to give praise too and they respond to emails. I really like shopping with them

SUPER picky. I am currently waiting on payment for a shop I did TEN WEEKS ago. I got a 10 on the report, and have sent an inquiry already, but I only take these if I need a space/time filler and can wait. Ten weeks is ridiculous.

Thank you AustinMom & pammie8223. It makes a huge difference when it is pleasant to work with them. I may consider signing up with them given what you both said. :-)

You are very welcome, I have found them to be really very pleasant, they treat you like a co worker, not an underling. Oh, and they say Please and Thank you!!!

They are one of my favorite MSCs. They are some of the nicest people to deal with. My last shop with them was the shop from hell and I simply won't shop that client again. But they have several others I really like.
I got the same with them. I did one shop two days ago and they returning shop to me twice. If they will do third time, I will ask them to remove my shop and forget about it. This is my last time I did something for them. No way I will work for them ....again. they finally sent feedback to me with the lowest score but I knew before it was my first and last job for them.

I just did 2 shops for them on the same day; my first for them and BOY, talk about an initiation!! By the time I was done, I swore I'd never take another of their shops. I cannot for the life of me understand the need for the constant reiteration of the same things over and over. I suspect that the client ONLY gets the narrative, so they want to be sure everything is covered there. Not sure what the check boxes are used for, though.

My first one (the furniture store) I learned the hard way that you have to explain all "yes" answers as well as all "no" answers. They kicked it back twice, but still gave me a 9. The second (Big Box electronics store) they only kicked back once, but gave me a 7. Who knows? I think maybe it was different editors.

So what did I do after all that? I went ahead and accepted 2 more! (Warehouse grocery and restaurant). I figure now that I know the drill it won't be so bad. I'll let you know how it goes!

My biggest issue with them isn't the reports, though. It's the crazy, convoluted instructions!! I have to copy and paste them into Word and make logical sense of them before I can do a shop. All the colors and bold and underline and highlighting makes me crazy. Give me numbered lists, headings and bullet points and I'm a happy shopper!
Has anyone had any problems with the fact that this grocery warehouse is a wholesaler, and technically, they (and you, and the MSC) are violating the law if you purchase from them if you do not have an appropriate business license or proof of nonprofit status? The guy who picked up the phone at the store clearly stated the policy that they do not sell to the general public (which is clearly stated on the corporate website), but the scheduler at the MSC doesn't seem to care and told me that she just called and was told the opposite (which was an abject lie because I had a female friend call back a short while after that, and she got the same response as me). In other words, they may be selling to the general public, which might allow me to go in and do the shop without worry, but if they are doing so while claiming certain tax benefits, everyone involved is violating state and Federal laws. Granted, they may not be claiming any tax benefits. But why would a company like this be in the wholesale business unless they were claiming tax benefits? Thoughts?
If you are referring to their grocery warehouse client in my neck of the woods, they are absolutely open to the general public. It is a non-membership warehouse, and their web site specifically states: "So whether you are shopping for your business or organization, stocking up, planning a party or preparing a meal for your family, visit your local XXX".

I assume you are referring to the same client. The one where you might say "shoppers use a high IQ and are permanent"?

Do you suggest the same to be true of Costco and Sam's Club?

If you look at the corporate web site, it explicitly states the following: "What do I need to shop at _____? All you need to shop at ______ is your business license, tax permit or proof that you’re a nonprofit organization." This is consistent with the law governing tax benefits to wholesalers. If you call a store and ask them directly (and I or an associate have now done this for 3 stores in two states), they will confirm that they cannot legally sell to the general public. Unless the MSC has some special agreement with the MSC that overrides state law and the IRS, or unless the company is not claiming the tax benefits available to wholesalers, anyone involved *in any way* in sales to the general public from these stores is in violation of state and Federal laws.

I have a Ph.D. and was a former financial advisor to individuals and significant corporations, so I can assure you that I know what I am talking about. Just because you shopped at this store and your transaction was processed by the store and you were reimbursed by the MSC does NOT mean that you have not violated state and Federal laws repeatedly, and that you will not be held (severely) accountable if you are ever audited by the powers-that-be. You must never confuse responsibility with ignorance.
I think we must be talking about different companies entirely.

Yes, it seems that Service Check must be working with a second grocery warehouse wholesaler... winking smiley
I'm just saying, I see nothing of what you mention on the web site of the company I have shopped for on behalf of Service Check.

The harder I work, the luckier I get.
Then it must be an entirely different company. As I mentioned above, the corporate web site of the company I gigged with says "What do I need to shop at _____? All you need to shop at ______ is your business license, tax permit or proof that you’re a nonprofit organization." This was confirmed 3 times, by two different callers, in two different states. Everyone available to be contacted at the client confirmed that they do not sell to the public, but the scheduler at the MSC maintains that this is not the case (because they have not previously had a problem...) Once again, I wasn't suggesting that anyone will not be able to make a purchase at this store and get paid by the MSC; however, unless the client is not taking advantage of the tax breaks available to wholesalers, or unless the MSC has some sort of sophisticated arrangement with the client allowing them to circumvent the law, this is all entirely illegal.
