BARE scam? - RESOLVED (It's legit.)

Got this today. Looks suspicious to me since the link to update your email does not reference BARE at all. I forwarded it to their corporate office.
Anyone know anything more?

I found it awfully odd and couldn't figure out why the link to login is showing the main site rather than baidata.com. The phone number is correct.

I agree with Bird. Why did you post a message which specifically says it should not be disseminated. I got the same email. I did as instructed. It looks totally legitimate to me, Did you hear back from Bare yet?

I got the same email and came on the board to see if anyone else got it. It looks suspicious to me also.
It's fine. All they ask for is your email address and name, nothing else, (and they had that much in order to send you the email in the first place). They send an email to that address, you click the link to confirm the address is valid, just like when you registered.

Time to build a bigger bridge.
Check out the code source. Written as a personal note to the code writer:

<!-- real people should not fill this in and expect good things -->

Very odd, but I received odd emails from an international sender, and BARE has verified that it was all good.

Nevermind, it is something that keeps bots from utilizing the online form. Sorry...

The "confidential" paragraph is standard, and is something that anyone wanting to use BARE's name for phishing would include. (Although I never thought about it... what does "should not be relied upon without specific written authority from BARE International" mean?)

The web address of
h t t p : / / e e p u r l . c o m / 3 r r l D
is what had me most concerned. The link is to somewhere other than BARE.
Plus, any time we're asked for updates, it's always done by logging in and making any changes to our profile.

I'll email a scheduler today as well.
I went to their website and to my profile and my address is the same. It hasn't changed, so...

I do not click links in emails. Nor do I copy and paste them in a browser when I don't recognize the address.

That's me.

Actually, all the email proves is that they had your email address, not your name. Going to the url provided and "confirming" your name and email address gives them your name and also your IP address, which can be used to pinpoint geographic location.

That additional information would make your info more valuable when sold, if this were some sort of phishing/email harvesting scam.

Although poorly done IMO, it does appear to me that this is a legit email from BI. The shortened url is one used by MailChimp, which is the company BI uses for list management.
I went to my profile, but not via that like, and updated it.

Not clicking on links in emails.

Hello,
We did send out a mass email asking our shoppers to update their email addresses. This is in order to validate the emails we have so that we can effectively communicate BARE news and updates.
It states in the email that the link [eepurl.com] must be used for this update and by choosing to update, your email preferences will not change within your Apollo Profile Settings; this is a correct statement. We are asking for shoppers to update via the link.
We will be sending an email similar to this from time to time over the next few weeks, we are working on ways to do so in a manner that makes all our shoppers feel more at ease.
We value your feedback and ask that anytime you question a correspondence from us you continue to share your concerns so that we may validate any correspondences associated with our name directly.
For those who received and email from BARE asking them update their email... yes, it is legitimate!

We're sorry for any confusion. The U.S. Office is doing this in order to validate the emails we have so that we can effectively communicate BARE news and updates.

The condfiendtialty clause is what we use at the bottom of all BARE emails. It is required in our signature smiling smiley
The link is generic. This looks a little different, but I guarantee that it will take you to the right place: [bareinternational.us3.list-manage2.com]

I think I'll pass. Thanks. I don't click links.

Ok. I did it and it's all good. Thanks! smiling smiley

I don't see why I need to update my email through some weird link. My email is up to date in SASSIE. They can get the email from there if they really want it. Why make more work for us?
As someone pointed out, maybe they are trying to get rid of dead wood. If you don't click on the link, you are no longer responsive and you get dropped. Seems like a plausible explanation. Just copying email address from an existing database accomplishes nothing in terms of them being able to find out who is still out there (and not sending email to spam and not a bad email address that generates no response at all).
