Guest Check

Has anyone ever had problems with Guest Check Inc. before? My paychecks from them seem to be less and less without warning or explanation, so I was wondering if anyone else has had experience with things not being as advertised with this company.

I have, too, until recently. Payment for their sports bar chain used to be $45 I think. Seems like my paychecks go down a dollar every time I do a new shop, now. My last check was only $41. I was just curious if anyone else noticed anything similar.
I did a shop for them that was to be paid by the 24th of last month. I sent an email to the scheduler and was told a check was cut on the 24th. It is now May 14, and still no check. I sent another email to the same scheduler that has responded to me the last two emails I have sent and she has not responded this time. I do find this odd when the paperwork said I would be paid via PayPal.
Are you sure you're talking about Guest Check Inc., wozswoman? Unless things have changed since fairly recently, the company has always paid with paper checks, and I seem to recall the checks being cut around the first of the month. I almost always had my checks by the 10th at the latest.
Yes, I made sure before I posted. Either way I was told my check was cut on the 24th of last month and still have not received it. My address has been verified with the company as well. This is the first time I have ever had to chase down a payment.
That's odd. I've never had problems with my checks not appearing or coming late.

I will, however, caution that the scheduler is VERY unethical. I work for a restaurant group that requested a quote for her services. She told my boss that there was a $5 shopper's fee that went to the shoppers on top of reimbursement. After my boss called her out on it, the Guest Check scheduler ceased communication with my boss with no further explaination/rebuttal for what the fee was for. She then banned me from shopping with Guest Check because she said she lost the contract because of me.

In other words, she's charging the companies an extra $5 that she's telling them goes to us, the shoppers, but then ends up pocketing that money ON TOP of the already hefty fee she charges the company. This, paired with the steadily decreasing checks shows that she's not someone ANYONE should be working for. Very disappointes in her.
Oh really? It's Mary. I thought she was the only one since she runs the whole operation.
If I do not have the check by Monday next week I will be sending off an email to the president/owner of the company who initially is the one I dealt with. The scheduler who is not Mary did not respond to my request two days ago and up until that point she had been extremely prompt in replying.
Guest Check Inc out of Mnnesota?? None of the emails I've ever received have had anything other than assignments on them. I wonder how we are getting totally different experiences.
Apparently there are two companies, The Guest Check and Guest Check. Derek Wood is the owner or president of The Guest Check, and there are two schedulers. I don't know anything about Guest Check, but it sounds like Mary is the owner or president there. So Wozswoman is talking about The Guest Check.
Ah. Weird. Yeah, the full name is Guest Check Inc--at least the one im talking abput, anyway. That explains our totally different experiences.
I just accepted a shop with Guest Check Inc. It pays a $5 flat fee on top of a maximum reimbursement. Seems okay to me, after checking the menu online.
pixie_dust_711,

It may be that the assignments you were offered had a different terms, per negotiations with the client. There are a few MSPs in my area that offer reimbursement-only and shops with a small fee, depending on the client, and sometimes on the location.

If you told your boss about the terms of another client's shops, even if you did not name the client, that may have been in violation of your ICA. You might have given him incorrect information, too, asserting that shoppers never get the $5. Chalk it up to learning.
Heartlandcanuk, that's entirely possible about the different client thing. All i know if that I have been with this particular company for about 3 years. Pay above the reimbursement has never been part of the program amongst her many clients. I even got snapped at once for requesting gas pay to travel 100 miles round trip for a shop that SHE asked me to do. It's hard to say if her different clients have different shoppers fees as she doesnt have an actual job board.

As for divulging information about GCI, all MSCs should be held accountable for proper ethics. If she charges the client $5 additional that she says goea to the shoppers, then she should be paying said money to the shoppers. Considering the scheduler didnt bother defending herself when my superior commented on the shopper fee, it appeared as though she got got red handed and conceded. She didnt explain that it was a new program going foward with new clients or anything of the sort.

But as you said, chalk it up to lessons learned. I noticed a handful of other suspicious practices from this company, so that's why I started this thread. I wasn't sure if there was a string of legitimate misunderstandings or if she was trying to pull the wool over her shopper's eyes.

The head of the Colorado MSP lacks basic spelling skills. I avoid shops for companies that ask for excellent writing skills but lack the willingness to check the literacy of their own emails.
CapitalJay, weird. You would think that it wouldn't be possible to register two very different companies under the sane name.

Amshopper, Mary Garbut out of the Minneapolis Guest Check is no better. As a matter of fact, all of my correspondences with her are cringeworthy, and her job "board" (which is just an email of her clients) looks like it was done by someone who just learned MS Word yesterday... Normally I also steer clear of situations like that because bad grammar/English is a huge pet peeve of mine, but unfortunately, she does have restaurants on her list that I frequent regularly. If I'm already going, I may as well get at least part of the bill covered...
I just got an email out of the blue from Derek Wood, The Guest Check. He wants me to sign up and, you are correct, he wants a writing sample. Based on his email writing sample, I think I'll pass.

OK, so for people who have worked for them, which is the "good" company? So confusing!
Neither. I can vouch for the Minneapolis one being terrible. Marg704 and AMshopper can vouch for the Colorado one being terrible. The one in Minneapolis only has shops in the Minneapolis area, anyway, so unless you live over here, there's no point in signing up.

I was wondering if you have any more info on The Guest Check, with Derek Woods. I was emailed and asked to apply. I did an application. They replied back and had me send them a sample shop. Then they asked me to send them an ICA. Since then I have not been able to contact them. They do not have a job board. I have been on their site but, they did not tell me how to sign on. I did receive information on a shop. I replied to the email and called their number but was not able to contact anyone.
