Goodwin Hotel Shop

I had a hotel shop with Goodwin today. The number listed was for the wrong hotel, so when I arrived, they had no record of my reservation. I called the wrong hotel and cancelled, but it's holding over $200 (more than the hotel room cost), which made me unable to book the room at the correct hotel. My dad called and booked the room for me since it was after 11 and I'd already driven two hours here. What are the odds that Goodwin will still pay me for this shop?

For hotel shops, you have to do a lot more homework than you did. Lesson learned if you don't get paid.
Jeez, that sucks. Was it even the same brand hotel? You definitely won't be paid, that's for sure. But I can kinda-sorta see how this could have happened accidentally.

It was the same type of hotel, just the wrong location. I called the scheduler this morning (as it was late when I faced the issue), and she acknowledged that they had the wrong number listed. After verifying that I cancelled the other hotel, she apologized and said to continue filling out the shop, as that was an error on their part, not mine or the hotel's.
Of course it is the MSCs fault. I'm not saying it isn't... But for someone who is testing the waters of hotel shops, you are terribly unprepared. Consider yourself very lucky this time.
I'm curious why the OP is unprepared?

I'm curious, too, especially since it was the same hotel chain. When you make a phone reservation, they usually don't repeat the address. Sometimes they just answer with the name of the chain! I can't say I know the details of the situation, but from what was presented here, it looks like the MSC was at fault. I'm glad they acknowledged that and will (hopefully) still accept your shop!

Happily shopping the Pacific Northwest. Shopping since 2013 smiling smiley
I believe it's a standard for just about every corporate hotel chain to verbally confirm the hotel location when confirming reservations, and if you received an email confirmation, it would definitely be listed there. If that did not take place, the blame gets shared equally amongst the MSC, hotel and shopper, I say.

Experience tells me that if the location is not confirmed, I will need to make a call to the hotel in advance to confirm the reservations....and to not trust MSCs to supply correct addresses and phone numbers. They mess that stuff up all of the time. I would consider that to be due diligence as a shopper.
Biggest shocker to me is that she actually got a schedule from Goodwin to reply.

They have a ton of shops in my area and I drive by the locations all the time, but when I can't get a scheduler to respond I just give up on the company.

We're talking about Goodwin Hospitality, right?

Yes, and I was typing on my phone. I meant to write, "Scheduler," but the voice command ignored me. smiling smiley

ETA: There are a ton of casual dining shops, not the buffet shops, near me.
I travel extensively and was willing to clear out a bunch of random airport shops for them. I can do 10 of those airports listed on the login page. Oh well.

I'm surprised to hear that! Summit Scheduling appears to help out Goodwin for some of the clients. On my end of town, Celeste from Summit schedules the airport shops near me. For the dine-in shops I perform for them, I interact directly with Randi from Goodwin. I never had issues getting in touch with them.

I do a lot of work for goodwin never had a problem.

Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.
I've done multiple shops for Goodwin and usually no problem getting in touch with the schedulers - usually a return email within 6 hours. Of course, if you are arriving at a location late in the evening, you may not get a reply until the next day.

Whenever I am offered a shop for a client at a location I've never done before, I always call ahead and ask exactly where they are located, then verify it matches the address location in the shopper log. For Goodwin, they regularly have shops at a sports bar/grill that has about 4 different locations all within an hour of me, so I am careful to check which the shop is for before accepting and then completing.
You know, the idea that we should expect the MSC to give us incorrect phone numbers or addresses is ridiculous! They are assigning a shop and they should be giving you the correct information so that you can complete the task!
