List of the LEGITIMATE MSCs that are not members of the MSPA?

Hi.

Is there a website that has a fairly comprehensive list of the LEGITIMATE MSCs that are not members of the MSPA?

Thank you.

I don't know of such a list. Perhaps we should compile one here.

Why do they need to be non-MSPA members? That does not make any sense to me. But it does leave more work for the rest of us.
I think this is a reply to the multiple times members here talk about the plethora of great and legitimate MSCs that are not MSPA members. Honestly, I can't ever remember checking to see if a company is or not so I have no clue. I'm sure there are some though.

I certainly didn't take it to mean they only wanted to work for non-member companies. Many new shoppers use membership to determine the legitimacy of a company. Having a list of good companies who are not members would simply be a useful tool.

I totally agree. I would love a list. Honestly because they would probably be smaller, easier to get along with, and better paying companies.

Are not reputable, dependable companies identified and discussed here, regardless of MSPA affiliation? I think most new shoppers are unaware of the MSPA. Have no idea how non and par would be differentiated.

I'm so sorry.

I should have stated my reasons for trying to find such a list.

However, both LisaSTL and bgriffin have great intuition and understood my unwritten intentions perfectly.

I am a "newbie" and I have only been on this board since February 2015.

I am so very thankful that I found Jacob Jans and this great Mystery Shopping Forum, with the most helpful and wonderful folks in the world!

Based on the recommendations on this board, I have so far registered with a little over 40 companies.

I have carefully tested the waters.

So far, I have only done 31 shops.

I have not had any shops rejected - YET ("knock on wood"winking smiley.

I haven't got burned - YET ("double knock on wood"winking smiley!

Without the Mystery Shopping Forum, I am sure that I would have fallen prey for numerous scams and would have been burned several times by now.

That would most probably have caused me to throw in the MS towel.

The Mystery Shopping Forum Official List of Mystery Shopping Companies is absolutely fabulous.

That wonderful list is alphabetic and has approximately 256 active companies on it.

Yes. I counted them all.

Last February, the Mystery Shopping Forum led me to the Mystery Shopping Providers Association.

Unfortunately, the MSPA membership list is not alphabetic.

It is a database, and I do not know how to alphabetize it.

Also, I was having problems tonight in coaching the MSPA website to list more than just a handful of the "USA Entire" member companies.

I had no problem in getting their site to render the extensive list of "Europe" members.

I was going to compare and contrast the Mystery Shopping Forum list with the MSPA "USA Entire" list.

So far, I have not been able to accomplish that.

Instead of "trying to reinvent the wheel" I posted my original question.

"Is there a website that has a fairly comprehensive list of the LEGITIMATE MSCs that are not members of the MSPA?"

Many thanks again to bgriffin.

That was my ultimate goal, perfectly!
First, go to the MSPA-NA member companies list: [www.mspa-na.org]

That just covers North America

That list can be copied, pasted into an Excel doc and sorted by company name.

I see 157 companies listed, but some are entities like Wordsmith Pros (just noticed it at the bottom of the alphabetized list), which is just editorial...so it's not 100% MSCs.

Many thanks, SteveSoCal,

I guess that we were on the same wavelength at the same time.

I did finally find:

MSPA - NA Member Companies
[www.mspa-na.org]

I know that I had seen that list before.

I also came up with 157 MSCs on that list.

Unfortunately, that MSPA list is also non-alphabetized.

I do not have Excel - just a generic database that I have not taken the time to learn yet.

If there already is not an existing list for the LEGITIMATE MSCs that are not members of the MSPA, I guess this would make a good project for when I am snowed in this winter!!

I can print out both lists, cross off the MSCs that appear on both lists, and come up with a fairly accurate list of LEGITIMATE MSCs that are not members of the MSPA.

Please notE that I am not saying "problem free."

I am just saying "LEGITIMATE."

Many thanks for everybody's great help.
If I get that project done this winter, when I am snowed in, I will definitely post it on this forum for vetting.
You can use the online version of Excel for free. It's an important tool to have/know as a mystery shopper, and will make your job much easier to sort the list if you want to cross-reference companies/ There is no list like you described that I know of, since I can't think of a reason to list companies and then exclude them for being MSPA members.

Might be easier to go through the overall list of MSCs and put a marking by those that are MSPA members, so that you can easily sort by either component. That could be accomplished over coffee, as it's pretty long wait for snowfall....
Today we have learned that there are approximately 99 LEGITIMATE MSCs in North America that are not dues paying members of the MSPA.

256 MSCs: Mystery Shopping Forum Official List of Mystery Shopping Companies - North America
[www.mysteryshopforum.com]

157 MSCs: MSPA - North America
[www.mspa-na.org]

That should be quite a list.

Many thanks for everybody's great help.
Well...not really. Many from the MSPA list are not not present on the MSF list, and I found one (Mystery Guest) on the MSF that is definitely no longer active.

That leaves approximately 137 active MSCs from the MSF list that do not appear to be MSPA members, though the names don't always match so it's hard to be sure. I still have 1/4 cup of coffee left:

Hi SteveSoCal,

Many thanks for the great advice.

I appreciate it very much.

I found:

Microsoft Excel Online - Work together on Excel spreadsheets
[office.live.com]

I signed up for a new account.

The account was free!!!

That site has all sorts of free M$ OneDrive software.

Other than M$ updates and M$ Security Essentials, I had no idea that M$ gave anything away, except for free leaky internet security holes!

When I get my new computer, I will definitely be using some of the M$ cloud software.

I am still using my creaky old 2005 HP computer with Windows XP!

I am really going to hate to give up XP.

IMHO XP is the most stable Windows platform that I have ever used, since 1991!

Again, many thanks for the great advice!

Oh My Gosh!

I was pretty proud of myself for learning several new facts today and hopefully delaying the onset of Alzheimer's Disease by a few more days.

Here you come up with a completely revised and edited list of LEGITIMATE MSCs that are not members of the MSPA, on just 3/4 cup of coffee!

You are trying to make me feel old.

I sure wish that I owned a prosperous company.

If I did, I would sure like to hire you and 100 of your clones.

SteveSoCal, many thanks for the fabulous job!!!

That was exactly what I was looking for!!!
I understood the question differently. I like working for some of the smaller companies and they pay better they are more personable and I like building the relationships. I took it as another shopper looking for a list of good companies out of the box. Nice BTW Steve

10-foot snow mound still remains in New York

(TWC NEWS BUFFALO/CNN) - You've no doubt heard the phrase "you don't stand a snowball's chance in summer."
But in Buffalo, NY, those chances are actually pretty good.
That's because a massive snow-pile is still standing after last November's massive storm.
The nearly 10-foot mound sits at the site where city officials dumped excess snow.
The dirt and weeds covering the mound have helped insulate it, even amid 90 degree temperatures.
It's not clear how long it will take to completely melt.

Hi Sybil2,

Please have Captain Kirk scrape off the layer of crud on the ten foot pile of Buffalo, NY snow, and have Scotty beam the pile to my backyard!

After experiencing the oppressive heat this July, 2015, I am so ready for winter!

As far as I am concerned, as long as I can seek refuge in my basement, that never freezes, it never gets too cold in the mid-west!

Unless the sun blinks out!
Awesome work folks. Especially dpachtie's alphabetical list of MSPA members.

I tried to create such a list but was unable to easily manipulate the data from the MSPA website. So I found a different workaround - a search page for MSPA companies. If you input a name, it will tell you if it is an MSPA-NA member and if so, it will direct you to a page with some basic information. I found it a much better way than looking at the non-alphabetical MSPA page that is listed in seemingly random order that changes over time.

The OP asked for a list of legitimate companies that are not MSPA members to try to avoid any bad eggs in the bunch. What is clear is that there are many legitimate companies that are not MSPA members. Perhaps a better solution is to research each new company you consider working for. Look at the threads, the growing list of reviews in the Mystery Shopper Magazine, and the MSPA website. You will discover things about them that may or may not be a good fit for your shopping preferences. Armed with that information you can pursue or avoid opportunities from the different companies. MSPA membership should stand for something. However, the lack of such doesn't disqualify it from any list of good companies.

Good luck

Sorry to go so far off topic, but I'm confused about the difficulty some are having with collecting the MSC data and sorting it. You simply:

-Navigate to the page mentioned: [www.mspa-na.org]
-Select the text for the MSCs on the list
-Copy the data
-Paste it into a blank Excel spreadsheet
-Choose the sort option
-Select the column that has the MSC names are in
-Hit "OK"

This should work in just about every browser I know of.
SteveSoCal,

Don't be confused. It was some time ago. User error was the likely culprit. It's all good now. Thanks. smiling smiley

WOW!

My inquiry sure resulted in great interest and the compilation of some great and informative lists, by our incredibly knowledgeable members!

Two days, after I posted my original inquiry, this posting was the # 1 posting in "Current Top Discussions."

As of the date of this comment, this posting is currently # 2 in "Current Top Discussions," with 80 likes.

Unfortunately, these postings will slowly drop off of the "Current Top Discussions" list.

HINT: We sure could use some more likes to stay on the "Current Top Discussions" list, and maybe even regain our # 1 spot!

This newbie is sure proud that his question prompted such an outpouring of discussion, support and the creation of comprehensive and useful lists that we all can use.

Mega Thanks to:

Also, many thanks to everyone who read this posting in its entirety.

I know that I learned a lot from our helpful and wonderful forum members.

I sincerely hope that all of our readers learned alot as well and that you will add these alphabetized lists to your MSC toolbox.

Please forgive me if I overlooked anybody.
Likes won't keep it at the top. A PM to Jacob, the forum owner, might result in it being made a separate list or made a "sticky," which would keep it at the top of the discussion threads.
